The Mandalorian saga will continue as the upcoming Star Wars entry: The Mandalorian & Grogu makes its way to the big screens on May 22, 2026, according to Lucasfilm, the production company behind this project. The film is directed by Golden Globe-nominated filmmaker Jon Favreau.

With a star-studded cast comprising Pedro Pascal and Jeremy Allen White, the newly announced film has already garnered quite some social media attention.

The Mandalorian & Grogu will be a direct inclusion in the Star Wars franchise thereby picking up the story from where the Disney TV show The Mandalorian concluded. The sci-fi adventure epic will hit the US theatres in May 2026 as Walt Disney Studios oversees distribution.

Initially, there were plans to continue The Mandalorian with a fourth season. However, the production plans were postponed owing to labor disputes in Hollywood that took place between May to November 2023.

Later, OG writer Dave Filoni and director Jon Favreau decided to come up with a film and thus The Mandalorian & Grogu was greenlit.

When will The Mandalorian & Grogu be released?

The Mandalorian & Grogu is set for a theatrical release across the United States on May 22, 2026. According to The Wrap, filming of the latest Star Wars entry took place in California in 2024 and was wrapped by the end of the year. We do not yet have any concrete information about the film's online release, however, fans can stream the OG show The Mandalorian with a Disney Plus subscription.

What do we know about the story of The Mandalorian & Grogu?

The official synopsis of The Mandalorian & Grogu, per IMDb, reads:

"Once a lone bounty hunter, Mandalorian Din Djarin and his apprentice Grogu embark on an exciting new Star Wars adventure."

The story will pick up from the ending of The Mandalorian Season 3 where we see Moff Gideon destroyed by Din Djarin and his associates and Mandalore has been reclaimed. Djarin then plans to take down other leaders of the Imperial Remnant by joining forces with the New Republic.

This takes us straight to the story of Ashoka Season 1 where the introduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn has been a major driving force to the plotline till now. So, Djarin along with Grogu now stands to face a potentially big challenge but how the gap will be bridged between the series and the upcoming film, is still being kept under wraps.

Who is in the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu?

Game Of Thrones star Pedro Pascal will lead the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu playing the titular character The Mandalorian aka Din Djarin (a bounty hunter inhabiting the outer galaxy). Pedro Pascal has done notable work in a number of projects namely The Last Of Us, The Mandalorian, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The Wild Robot, and Gladiator II.

Alongside him, we have co-star Jeremy Allen White in the role of Rotta the Hutt (whose father is the infamous Jabba the Hutt). Back in August 2024, Deadline confirmed Sigourney Weaver as one of the cast members for The Mandalorian & Grogu - though her role has not been specified yet.
