New York serves as a backdrop for writer-director Adam Brooks' The Life List, a dreamy romantic comedy that uses locations across this state. This was important to Brooks, who grew up in this cinematic city. In the press notes, he shed light on his love for the Big Apple:

“I’ve spent most of my adult life in New York, and as a child, I came here all the time. My father was from Brooklyn. He grew up a mile from where the Rose House is in Ditmas Park."

He further added:

“I think that part of the charm and the strength of movies like this is making the locations feel viable and real. I try to feel like people are in the right apartment, the right office, the right space because I think it creates a world around them that deepens the story, but also creates a romance because New York is New York.”

Here is the list of specific The Life List filming locations:

1) New York City, New York

Based on the director's comments, it is evident that he loves NYC. So, he utilizes the contrasting cityscapes to highlight different aspects of Alex's emotional journey. Chinatown offers a colorful vibrancy, while Cortlandt Alley offers a unique old-world charm. Washington Square Park and Lower East Side offer a wide palate to showcase Alex's hopes and dreams. Additionally, Greenwich Village Comedy Club is presumably where Alex goes to tick a wish off from her life list.

2) Brooklyn, New York

Brooklyn offers a variety of locations that play major roles in Alex's quest to cross off her teenage bucket list. In a press note, the director shared how he used a walk along the Brooklyn Promenade to express the "power and beauty of the city."

Reports say that some parts of The Life List were shot in River Deli Restaurant in Brooklyn while some others were shot at Columbia Place. Remsen Street, Joralemon Street, and Montague Street were reportedly also a part of the film's shoot. A blend of industrial and residential locations in Gowanus offered the film a unique touch.

3) Nyack and New Jersey

Unlike the busy streets of NYC, Nyack offers a quieter atmosphere that allows Alex to immerse herself in some nostalgic moments. Situated in the Orangetown in Rockland County, this town was reportedly used to represent Vermont in the film. This is presumably where Alex meets Johnny (Jordi Mollà), a local musician, who offers her some answers about her past.

The Life List reportedly used a real-life restaurant in Nyack and rebranded it for the shoot. Some parts of the film were reportedly filmed at The First Reformed Church. Additionally, some sources suggest that New Jersey was also used for the film's shooting to offer a tonal difference from the city streets.
