The Last Showgirl: Release details, plot, cast and more about Pamela Anderson's latest drama film

Critics are saying The Last Showgirl is a career-defining performance for the Canadian American actress Pamela Anderson. Gia Coppola has directed the film which was shot in just 18 days in Las Vegas. It stars Dave Bautista, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jason Schwartzman, and more.

It was given a limited release and has already earned nominations including Outstanding Lead Performance, Best Actress Drama, and Best Original Song. Andrew Wyatt, whose credits include being Miike Snow's frontman, co-writing Grenade with Bruno Mars, recording Descender, and more, wrote most of the tracks in the film.

The nominated song, Beautiful That Way, was performed by the American singer and Hannah Montana fame Miley Cyrus. Wyatt found one interesting connection between Pamela and Miley's journey as artists while he was working on the latter's studio album, which made room for the song now in the Golden Globes race.

The world premiere of the movie happened in September 2024 and ran for a week in Los Angeles' AMC Century City, releasing on December 13, 2024. The wide release is scheduled for January 10, 2024, across the United States, distributed by Roadside Attractions.

The other international releases include February 13, 20, and 28, for moviegoers in Italy, Australia, and the United Kingdom respectively. Similarly, it will be March 13, 14, and 20 for Russia (CIS), Spain, and Germany respectively.

The Last Showgirl plot details

As the film's name suggests, it is about a showgirl trying to cope with life after the show she was working for is being shut after almost four decades. According to the The Last Showgirl's logline,

A seasoned showgirl (Anderson) must plan for her future when her show abruptly closes after a thirty-year run. As a dancer in her fifties, she struggles with what to do next. As a mother, she strives to repair a strained relationship with her daughter, who often took a backseat to her showgirl family.

Despite the Le Razzle Dazzle show's demise, her character, Shelly Gardner, has a never-give-up attitude and keeps trying to get work. Her field requires a couple of things alongside talent, youth, and beauty. Shelly, sure has the talent but the other requisites are lost with time as she has aged.

But with her career on one side, there's her daughter on the other, with whom Shelly's relationship is deteriorating owing to the demanding work. Life is tough for the former showgirl at this point of life, but she manages to navigate through thick and thin.
