The Last Rodeo: Release date news, cast details and more about the upcoming drama film starring Neal McDonough

Neal McDonough will be a cowboy fighting for his family in the upcoming rodeo film, The Last Rodeo, scheduled for release in May 2025. Jon Avnet, who is known for Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), is directing the movie. He has also directed the Richard Gere starrer, Red Corner (1997), which addressed political issues. He also served as an executive producer for the 2010 hit, Black Swan.

McDonough, who says Avnet is a frequent collaborator and friend, has worked with the director on projects like 88 Minutes (2007) and Boomtown (2002). The actor explains the movie will speak to the ones unable to express their feelings towards their family.

Other than McDonough, the film stars Ruve McDonough, Mykelti Williamson, Christopher McDonald, and more. American television and film editor, Tom Constantino, who is also a part of American Cinema Editors, served as the editor of the movie.

Deadline first broke the news that The Last Rodeo is set for the Memorial Day weekend on May 23, 2025. Angel Studios will oversee the distribution of the film and this will be their third project alongside Neal and Ruve's The McDonough Company. The other two are Homestead (2025) and The Shift (2023).

Who is in The Last Rodeo?

Neal McDonough is the leading man, Joe Wainright, in the film, where he plays a retired rodeo who again seeks to enter a competition, becoming the oldest participant in history. The actor has appeared in a barrage of films and shows where his portrayal of President Dwight D. Eisenhower in American Horror Story: Double Feature (2021) remains one of his remarkable performances. Recently, he was seen sharing the screen with Sylvester Stallone in Tulsa King as Cal Thresher.

Ruvé McDonough, the lead actor's wife, is likely to be playing the character's wife, Rose Wainright. She has been a producer of Neal's projects like Boon (2022), The Warrant: Breaker's Law (2023), Homestead, and more.

Joining the Wainright family is For All Mankind's (2019) Sarah Jones, who is Sally Wainright in the movie, she will most probably be their daughter. She has majorly worked for television while appearing in main roles in shows like Alcatraz (2012), Kendra, Vegas, and more.
