You're Cordially Invited: Ending explored
The ending in You're Cordially Invited, pertaining to Jim and Margot's romantic journey, follows the classic 'enemies to lover' trope, as two people who are at loggerheads upon meeting are ultimately united by fate. Towards the end, they find a connection and love unexpectedly, once they share their stories and relate to each other, and begin empathising with one another.
After all, Margot and Jim had the same objective, as they were driven by love for their family and were stuck in the same situation. They ended up filling the void in each other's lives, completing each other.
At the start of You're Cordially Invited, when both the wedding parties arrive at the wedding location and learn about the double booking, Jim and Margot spark off a no-holds-barred battle against each other, as both of them are trying hard to stand by their loved ones and secure the venue for their family's wedding.
Spoilers ahead
As Jim and Margot engage in a series of squabbles and showdowns, there are several plot spins, too. Neve reveals to Margot she is pregnant, though the sisters are reluctant to reveal the news to others. Margot, in a drunken haze, accidentally injures Jenni in the eye, leading to a revenge spree between her and Jim by attempting to sabotage each other's family wedding.
At one stage, Margot and Jim come together, open up about themselves and work things out. However, things complicate after a drift occurs between Jenni and Oliver due to a misunderstanding owing to Margot. Jim gets tangled in the issue pertaining to the misunderstanding, and Jenni relationship with her father hits a rough patch.
Margot too, goes through several revelations and confrontations with her family amidst the completion of Neve and Dixon's wedding. Slapstick mixes with melodrama as Margot is wounded by an alligator, after she finds Jim hilariously trying to wrestle with the beast in a room.
Towards the end, Margot and Jim share a romantic kiss after they reconcile with their respective families, and the news of Jenni and Oliver's wedding getting annulled is revealed, though they continue living together as a couple. After days pass by, Jim and Margot meet each other again along with Margot's family, where Jim proposes to Margot but she suggests running away together.
What led them to the chaos in You're Cordially Invited?
The wedding place holds an imperative emotional value for both Jim and Margot. Jim, too, had his wedding with Jenni's deceased mother at the same venue years ago. His late wife succumbed to cancer when Jenni was very young, leading to Jim becoming an overprotective father, who continuously tends to smother his daughter with overbearing love. It is almost as if he is trying to overcompensate for the absence of a maternal figure in Jenni's life. Jim leaves no stone unturned to be the perfect father, and hence the father-daughter duo shares a close and heartwarming relationship. The scene of Jim doing Jenni's hair is too cute to miss out.
For Margot, it is her and Neve's grandmother's memories that are attached to this place. Margot, who is mostly immersed in her work as a television producer, is having a turbulent relationship with her family, especially her mother. However, she loves her sister Neve and is striving to make things perfect for her.
Jim and Margot both cross paths, though, and get embroiled in a chaotic mess because the hotel has double-booked their weddings. On the day Jim calls for an appointment, Scarlett, the original owner of the resort, accepts his booking for the specific date — June 1 — but suddenly passes away before she can enter the same in the resort register. Later, Margot calls for an appointment for June 1, and the new manager finalizes the date for Neve's wedding, without knowing of Jim's appointment.
