The Electric State is a directorial work of Anthony and Joe Russo, and it's written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus. The science fiction action-adventure flick is an adaptation of the namesake illustrated novel that came out in 2018. It was released on Netflix on March 14, 2025.

The official synopsis reads,

An orphaned teen hits the road with a mysterious robot to find her long-lost brother, teaming up with a smuggler and his wisecracking sidekick.

The Electric State is produced by the Russo brothers, Russell Ackerman, Patrick Newall, Chris Castadli, and Mike Larocca. The film's production cost is estimated to be around $320 million, which makes it one of the costliest films to be made. It had its premiere at the Grauman's Egyptian Theatre and was released on Netflix on March 14, 2025.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Joe Russo spoke about how they changed the film's tone from its source material. He said,

“It’s an interesting shift away to a more family appeal tone. We felt like the message about technology that was in the graphic novel was most important to be heard by younger audiences … so, it is a broad appeal movie. It is a family film.”
