Spielberg himself came up with the story of The Dish, but the screenplay is credited to David Koepp. Steven Spielberg's upcoming UFO film is not the first time the director worked with the writer. Before The Dish, they had previously collaborated on Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

According to the Production Bulletin, a database for upcoming movies' shooting schedules, the movie is believed to start production in February 2025. The Dish, which Universal Pictures is rumored to be described as an even movie with an original idea, is supposedly scheduled to start in Atlanta, GA. If that's the case, Steven Spielberg's upcoming UFO film is not the first movie being filmed in Atlanta.

Over recent years, Atlanta has become a popular city for film production. Several blockbusters, including the Marvel movies, are usually filmed in Atlanta. Almost all actors in Hollywood have experience working in Atlanta. That includes actress Emily Blunt, who is headlining The Dish. Before Steven Spielberg's upcoming UFO film, she had filmed Jungle Cruise and Pain Hustlers in Atlanta.

Besides Atlanta, The Dish will also be shot in New Jersey. However, the NJ locations have not been announced yet.

Who stars in The Dish?

As stated before, Emily Blunt is in the lead of Steven Spielberg's upcoming UFO film. Apart from her, The Dish also is rumored to star Colin Firth, Challengers' actor Josh O’Connor, Wyatt Russell, and Colman Domingo. Despite the star power and the talent involved behind the scenes, the plot details of The Dish still remain unknown.

Why is there excitement for The Dish?

The major reason behind the anticipation for The Dish is Steven Spielberg. Spielberg is an auteur with an experience of over five decades in Hollywood, and he has fans of multiple genres. Be it Sci-Fi or a realistic family drama, he has done it all. The humanity and wonder in his films, as seen in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Indiana Jones, and Jurassic Park, has attracted people of all ages.

With The Dish, Spielberg may present a fresh and bold take on humanity’s curiosity about the cosmos.

Since no shot of The Dish has been filmed yet, details about this movie are still very sparse. However, Steven Spielberg's upcoming UFO film does have a release date of May 2026. This makes Universal Pictures a home of two auteur directors whose major motion pictures are releasing in 2026. The other is Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which will be released in 2026.
