The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is an animated original feature but it retains the vibes of Daffy Duck and Porky Pig we used to watch as kids. And then the details in it are awesome so that's a plus for someone seeking things through a lens of cinematic eyes.
While most of the characters were given life through the voice of Mel Blanc, Canadian voice actor Eric Bauza has been doing it lately, and he does have a charm to it that the audiences will see in the film. It has already been premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and is awaiting a US-wide release now.
As far as the earnings are concerned, the film has raked in $423k at the time of writing. If that'll blow the box office will be revealed later upon its US release. Ratings-wise, it is blowing minds already so we can say it has a pretty good chance at the box office.
What do we know about The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes movie?
The title of the film was first announced in 2022 during a San Diego Comic-Con, where Eric Bauza, Alex Kirwan, Abe Audish, and more moderated the panel. The trailer dropped in December 2024 on YouTube, which has garnered 1.6 million views on WB Kids' channel already.
Pete Browngardt sat on the directorial chair for The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie but was part of a large writing team that included Darrick Bachman, Pete Browngardt, Kevin Costello, and more. Interestingly, he is also the current executive producer and creative director of Looney Tunes Cartoons.
Initially, the film was coming to HBO Max alongside a broadcast on the cable television channel Cartoon Network. But then restructuring happened at Warner Bros. Discovery and later it was given a go for a theatrical run. Following that, it first premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 11, 2024. Now it's slated to be released in the US on February 28, 2025.
While Eric Bauza voices both the leads in The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie Daffy, Duck, and Porky Pig, Candi Milo will voice Petunia Pig, the latter character's love interest in the film. Other voice cast includes Fred Tatasciore (Farmer Jim, Scientist), Laraine Newman (Mrs. Grecht), Wayne Knight (Mayor), and more.
What is The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes movie about?
Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are raised by Farmer Jim, but everything, good or bad, has to end, and so one day, their adoptive father passes away, leaving the house for them. With time, the house is deteriorating, courtesy of a meteor that brought in a gooey thing with it.
Now they are supposed to fix the house as one neighborhood representative asks them or they might have to leave it for good. So that prompts the duck and the pig to look for a job; they eventually find one but things get gooey, more like bubble gum-like.
Despite what the title suggests, we are still unsure if Earth will blow up in The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes movie. However, one thing is for sure: when that nostalgia kicks with a mix of high-definition, the theatres might blow up with a cheery roar.
