The Damned: Everything we know about the upcoming horror film starring Odessa Young and Joe Cole

Thordur Palsson's upcoming psychological horror film The Damned will star Joe Cole and Odessa Young with a screenplay by Jamie Hannigan. The movie was first screened at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 6, 2024.

Later, the North American distribution rights were bought by Vertical and now we have an early 2025 release date for the United States. Young was the first member to be included in the cast following which Peaky Blinders star Joe Cole also got included.

According to reports, The Damned will be released in the United Kingdom a week after its theatrical debut in the US. The story follows a female lead Eva (played by Odessa Young) who is on the fence about how to help the crew of a ship that got wrecked off her village coast. As the plot culminates, the consequence of every harsh decision weighs in.

The Damned is set for a theatrical release in the United States on January 3, 2025. Earlier in June 2024, the movie had its global premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. Vertical is currently holding the distribution rights of the international horror co-production.

What do we know about the plot of The Damned?

Set in the 19th century, the story of The Damned revolves around a young widow named Eva whose coastal village witnesses a shipwreck during the harsh winter. The situation leads to a tumult among the villagers as they are already being crushed by food shortage.

On top of that, the survivors from the wreck have only added to their troubles. Thus, Eva suddenly finds herself at a crossroads, struggling to make any decision. The villagers must share their supplies to make sure that the sailors live but that would only make things worse for themselves. As the plot unravels, viewers witness the horrifying consequences of each cruel decision taken by the village.
