The Calendar Killer is a crime thriller film by German director Adolfo J. Kolmerer. The film is originally titled Der Heimweg and it is written by Sebastian Fitzek and Susanne Schneider. It was released on Amazon Prime Video on January 16, 2025.

The plot revolves around a girl named Klara (played by Luise Heyer) who is cornered in a weird situation. She will have to execute her husband if she wishes to live through the day. This situation has been put on her by the titular calendar killer.

What happens at the end of The Calendar Killer?

Towards the end of the film, it is revealed that Jules is the killer. He was someone who always tried to help others through his helpline job so the revelation came as a surprise for everyone. The character was caring towards Klara and others, but his motives soon became very clear.

We find out that Diana, the woman he was married to, was abused by her father for a long time. She decided to end her life later on and a fire also engulfed their house. Jules and Diana's children perished in that fire. This leads him to believe that Diana died because she could not cope with her grief. Jules then morphs into a serial killer to end this so-called problem for women.

Martin and Jules have a conversation where the latter admits to his crimes. This entire conversation is secretly recorded by Klara. Martin is heard saying that he was provoked by Klara to attack. All these words make her realize that Martin has been lying about himself to the public. People know him as a nice secretary and a family man.

After the recording, Klara goes on to put the entire recording in public. Martin tries to cover up and play the victim while putting the blame on the calendar killer. But his lies were caught and Martin was put into police custody. He was eventually given a five-year jail time by the court.

The ending of The Calendar Killer showcases the killer paying for the crimes he did. With Klara's one smart move, she was able to get Martin convicted. The film explores the questions of how we deal with women who are going through abuse. The need to have a robust system where such people can't roam freely is something that the film raises subtly.

Martin projected a good image of himself in public while his actions privately were different. This begs the question of how many such people are out there in the real world. Films like this one are a reminder of how the world is and how some people can find pleasure in others' misery. The Calendar Killer can be enjoyed on Amazon Prime Video.
