On February 27, 2025, the official trailer of The Assessment was released online. The video, which runs for over two minutes, captures several moments from the film that build excitement. It showcases a couple preparing to take the tests for parenthood. Virginia, their assessor, visits their home and informs them that they will be under observation for a week to determine their suitability as parents.

What starts as a harmless assessment slowly turns into what Aaryan calls a "nightmare" as Virginia forces herself into their lives, disrupting their privacy. The video then crescendos into a series of intense shots from the film, heightening tension as Virginia increasingly terrifies the family.

In September 2024, Fortuné gave an interview with Deadline, where she spoke about meeting Vikander for the film. She said,

"When I met with Alicia, she was like, ‘This scares me a lot, but I really want to do it.’ That’s good, because I felt if she tells me that, it means that she wants to go in areas that she had never gone before. And that’s what I wanted. I didn’t want someone to feel safe. I wanted her to go into a danger zone."

The French director then met with Vikander and Olsen at her apartment, where they got emotional after their conversation. Fortuné recalls,

"I remember, the three of us, that first time, we were all crying.”

Fortune also mentioned her own experience with pregnancy helped her connect with the story of The Assessment.

“I’ve done IVF for many years, many years. I was trying to have a kid and in fact I was writing my own feature about this. So I was totally on top of the topic of the film. And I was already, in my videos, doing some kind of sci-fi. I was totally in this universe,“
