Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek is set to return to the big screen in his upcoming espionage thriller film The Amateur. Hutch Parker Entertainment has reportedly produced the movie with director James Hawes and writers Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli.
The story has been adapted from the 1981 novel by Robert Littell, going by the same name. 20th Century Studios is holding distribution rights in the United States and will release the film on April 11, 2025.
The plot revolves around a grieving CIA cryptographer, played by Rami Malek, who goes on a mission to hunt down the men who killed his wife in a terrorist attack. Principal photography took place in London and in parts of France and Turkey.
Among some of the lead stars, are Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan, and Caitriona Balfe. The official synopsis of The Amateur reads:
"Follows a CIA cryptographer, who manages to blackmail his agency into training him to let him go after a group of terrorist who killed his wife in London."

Rami Malek's The Amateur is set to be theatrically released across the United States on April 11, 2025, though the initial release date was November 8, 2024. However, there is still no news about the film's release on OTT platforms or various video-on-demand services.
What do we know about the plot of The Amateur?
As already seen in the trailer, the character of Rami Malek, Charles Heller is a genius yet highly introverted CIA decoder. There are reportedly certain similarities to his role in Mr. Robot. Charles's wife passes away in a terrorist attack in London.
Deeply moved by his loss, Charles embarks on a mission to avenge his wife's untimely tragic death. After his seniors refuse to act, he blackmails his agency to provide him with the training required for field operations. However, he then uses his intelligence as the ultimate weapon in his personal quest.
So far, there are no updates on how the plot will further unfold. But viewers will reportedly witness Charles's struggle with his personal problems in the espionage thriller, as he tries to overcome all obstacles to accomplish his one-man mission.
Who is in the cast of The Amateur?
Rami Malek will take the lead role of Charles Heller, an introverted but brilliant CIA cryptographer. Alongside him, we will have Emmy Award-winning actor Laurence Fishburne, known for his work as Morpheus in The Matrix saga.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan will also join the cast with Caitriona Mary Balfe. Balfe has a notable screen appearance and a very important role in the historical drama series Outlander. However, their roles in The Amateur are still being kept under wraps.
