Mahershala Ali will soon be seen leading a team of experts trying to find the remaining traces of dinosaurs. Jurassic World: Dominion brings him into this exciting franchise that has been getting a lot of traction in the last couple of months. He has also received two Oscars so far, which puts him on a select list of actors. However, despite all this success, his MCU entry through a live-action film has not seen the light of day.

Since 2019, there have been discussions about a Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali, hoping to bring a fresh spin to this character. However, since then, the world has gone through a pandemic, and Hollywood has faced artists' strikes that have affected several production plans. Blade might have been one of those productions that has still not passed the discussion stage to go on the floors. However, that doesn't mean that the MCU hasn't used Blade in their projects.

After 2019, Blade's character has appeared thrice in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The fans may remember Wesley Snipes' Blade from their recent memories as he appeared in Shawn Levy's Deadpool & Wolverine. This 2024 film offered a mix of cameos from all over the place in this universe, which also included Chris Evans appearing as Johnny Storm, his lesser-known role in the MCU than Captain America.

Snipes' Blade offered a similar surprise for the fans, who had seen him only in three movies from 1998 to 2004. He had been immortalized in pop culture as the defining voice of Blade. So, in its self-referential, humorous fashion, the film showed Snipes saying,

"There's only been one Blade. There's only ever gonna be one Blade."

While that moment got a lot of laughs and applause, it must have stuck out as a sore thumb for Mahershala Ali fans who have been hoping to see him in the same role. It's not that they never got that chance, but it was only through a voice-over both times he appeared as Blade.

The two times Mahershala Ali appeared in the MCU were Eternals and What If?

The 2021 movie Eternals was both a critical and commercial misfire and received a less-than-favorable response from the audience. Still, its post-credit scene offered Maheshala Ali fans a chance to experience him in this role. It showed Ali's Blade speaking with Kit Harrington's Black Knight / Dane Whitman as he was about to hold the Ebony Blade, which can offer strength but can also lead him to corruption.

Besides that mysterious later-revealed appearance, Mahershala Ali appeared as Blade at the very end of the third season of the Marvel series What If? It teased his appearance in the latter MCU projects, including Marvel Zombies. However, all these appearances have been or will be through his voice. He has not been physically present in any live-action MCU movie.

Blade, starring Mahershala Ali, was supposed to come out in 2023. However, due to a mix of logistical and creative issues, it has not gone ahead yet. Also, it's unclear whether he will be a part of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. So, fans will have to wait longer and hold on to their hopes.
