Star Trek: Section 31 is set to bring Philippa Georgiou back to the screens. Oscar-winning Michelle Yeoh will reprise this negative role in this spinoff television film after playing it in Star Trek: Discovery.

Olatunde Osunsanmi directed this project from a screenplay by Craig Sweeny based on Gene Roddenberry's timeless story. It marks Osunsanmi's third project in the Star Trek universe after working on Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Short Treks.

Yeoh's Georgiou will be central to the film. Yeoh, who offers her solid acting chops for this project, is known for her work in Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon(2000). Besides her, the film will star Omari Hardwick (Kick-A**), Sam Richardson (Veep), and Kacey Rohl (Hannibal)in prominent roles.

With Michelle Yeoh as the lead, Star Trek: Section 31 will premiere on January 24, 2025, and will be available to watch exclusively on Paramount+. The release date was announced at New York Comic Con during its Star Trek universe panel.

CBS Studios has produced this project along with Roddenberry Entertainment and Secret Hideout.

Star Trek: Section 31 unveiled its official trailer at the CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil. According to the reports, its narrative takes place somewhere between Star Trek: The Next Generation and the original Star Trek films.

It shows Michelle Yeoh in her role as the edgy Philippa Georgiou. She will return to the universe as she is set on a dark mission from her space station. In this chapter, she owns a nightclub outside the Federation space called the Baraam.

She meets a customer, who makes her a proposition to return to get back in the action related to the Starfleet. The customer hides some details about himself and so does she. After joining Section 31 to protect the United Federation of Planets, she must confront the demons from her past.

Michelle Yeoh, Omari Hardwick, Sam Richardson, and Kacey Rohl will play the central roles in Star Trek: Section 31. Yeoh will return as Philippa Georgiou, while Hardwick, Richardson, and Rohl will play Alok Sahar, Quasi, and Rachel Garrett, respectively. Alok is a mastermind, Quasi is a shapeshifting Chameloid, and Garett is the agent who represents Starfleet in Section 31.
