Our web-slinger will again be seen swinging through the streets of New York in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's franchise. Fans were in a frenzy after they got to see the film's logo inspired by the classic Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man comics from 2005.
But there's a catch that Spidey experts might already have caught. The design is borrowed from the 2005 comic, but the name 'Brand New Day' is a storyline in The Amazing Spider-Man that began in 2008. That's right, folks, a mash-up, as our new Captain America, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), explained recently.
So, going by the title and logo design, we have a lot of prospects to appear in the film. Most importantly, the former hints at an iconic Spider-Man supervillain who could appear in the film, Mr. Negative. And who knows, maybe he is the main focus.
Who is Mr. Negative?

Initially, the character was put in a positive light, which began as his alter ego, Martin Li. He was depicted as someone into social welfare. However, it was another of the crew members of the ship who stole the identity after Li died, as revealed later in the comic book.
He was subject to an experiment that developed these two identities, one of which was the malicious Mr. Negative, and another was more kind-hearted. The latter one was called Martin Li only. That's something like Bob, who is about to be introduced in Thunderbolts*.
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he even tries to kill the web-slinger with this bioweapon called the Devil's Breath. Well, he was actually trying to get rid of Maggia, an organization that experimented on him and made him into this being, but the Spider came in his way, so that was sort of his way of swatting.
Although his proper appearance is in The Amazing Spider-Man's story arc, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he first appears in Free Comic Book Day: The Amazing Spider-Man #1. Though we don't know who he is at first, as Peter overhears Overdrive, one of the members of Mr. Negative's organization, talking to the supervillain, and is found out later.
Spidey might need some help to tackle the Spider-Man: Brand New Day villain
Marvel's Spider-Man stories may not have a Reverend Mother, but it has its own 'Way,' the Spider-Way; we may see it in the upcoming Tom Holland film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, only if the MCU plans to bring Shang-Chi into it.
You see, Mr. Negative has some impressive sword skills, and there's this story arc where Shang-Chi helps Peter with "the Way of the Spider" after the web slinger lost his Spider-Sense during the events of 2011’s Amazing Spider-Man #664, something that Collider's Collier Jennings points out. Shang-Chi's appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day will also make him a pivotal character, as Mr. Negative is his archenemy, too.
The Punisher is one heavy-hitting enemy of the black-and-white villain, too, and fans hope to see him appear with Kingpin and Daredevil. Interestingly, Jon Bernthal's Punisher was recently introduced in Daredevil: Born Again, maybe things are moving to some serious street-level action.
