The remake of the Danish film Speak No Evil might not sit well with fans and viewers as they don't seem to have liked the trailer of the upcoming film.
Directed by renowned filmmaker James Watkins, the first trailer of Speak No Evil has ignited notable backlash from fans as the last seconds of the trailer unexpectedly spoiled the most awaited twist revealed at the end of the original story.
The film's trailer exposed the most-awaited twist even before the film hit theatres, leaving fans to call out Speak No Evil's trailer and label it as "comical" and less impactful on Reddit:
Another user expressed their frustration with unwanted remakes, claiming that the trailer showed the entire movie:
User @JonnyPoy also commented that the trailer for Speak No Evil felt like a "joke" and wrote:
Well, if viewers think that the trailer is generating serious frustration on Reddit, then it's safe to say that other social media platforms including X (former Twitter) are also flooded with netizens giving negative feedback over spoiling the twist:
Another user also posted that the entire plot was revealed in a few minutes, making the upcoming film unnecessary:
The original Speak No Evil is a Danish film featuring the story of a couple Bjørn and Louise and their beloved daughter Anges who find themselves in the most terrifying and discomforting situation after being invited by a Dutch couple, Patrick and Karin who had a son named Abel.
Initially, it was shown that Abel had congenital aglossia, a birth defect in which a baby is born without half of the human tongue. However, as Patrick makes the situation deadly with time, it is revealed at the end of the original film that the Dutch couple had cut Abel's tongue to hide their dark secret.
So, instead of keeping the twist a secret till the end of the film, it was revealed in the trailer itself.
When will the remake of Speak No Evil come out?
While most of the fans and viewers are sharing negative reactions after watching the trailer, there might be many who didn't watch the original film and are curious about the dark secret of the Dutch family.
Speak No Evil will come out in theatres on September 13, 2024, starring James McAvoy as Paddy, Mackenzie Davis as Lousie, child actor Alix West Lefler as Agnes Dalton, Dan Hough as Ant (the boy without tongue) and Scoot McNairy as Ben Dalton.
The trailer features McAvoy's Paddy as an incredibly unsettling and manipulative man who continues testing his guests till the very end.
Mackenzie Davis speaks about the controversial trailer of Speak No Evil
Since it has been all over the internet that the trailer has spoiled the whole anticipation, actress Mackenzie Davis who'll be seen as Louise in the remake has an entirely different perspective on the revelation of the major plot twist.
While speaking to Dexerto, Davis explained that the spoiler at the end of the trailer isn't something to be worried about, as horror films often follow a calculated approach. She said:
"There’s no way to make a movie and then be surprised who the villain is, or something else, because things were just already leaked beforehand. I don’t think it really matters in this case, because I don’t want it to."
For the actress, the spoiler doesn't hold immense importance as she believes that in most horror films, viewers can easily make out who the devil is. The film closely follows the Danish version, but certain changes have been made in this project.
Speak No Evil will come out on September 13, 2024.
