The film will be released by Universal Pictures on January 2, 2026, marking the first release of the year. It is possible that the makers scheduled it for a 2026 release to have some gap between M3GAN 2.0 and SOULM8TE. The former will be released on June 27, 2025.

Kate Dolan is the director and screenplay writer, while the story is written by James Wan, Rafael Jordan, and Ingrid Bisu. The producers of the film include Wan and Jason Blum (Blumhouse Productions). Both Wan and Blum have been known to create horror films for several years. Earlier, Dolan directed a short and a feature called Mother, which premiered at TIFF.

SOULM8TE is about a man who is grieving the loss of his wife. To cope with his loneliness and sadness, he installs an AI humanoid girl.
