The American comedian, writer, and actor Eva Victor is now a director too, debuting with Sorry, Baby, a film about a college professor coping with light after experiencing sexual assault. Critics have loved it so far, as the Tomatometer shows it having a 100% approval rating at the time of writing.
Just recently, the Sorry, Baby's distribution rights were acquired by A24 in a bidding war where it stood opposite Neon and Mubi. It first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where A24 paid $8 million for the acquisition. As of now, the company hasn't announced a release date for the film.
Eva Victor is also on the lead apart from being the director, while it is produced by Adele Romanski, Mark Ceryak, Barry Jenkins, and Frank Ariza. For her work, Victor won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award after the premiere. Sorry, Baby's filming began in March 2024 in Ipswich, Massachusetts, where the majority of the work was likely done on March 13, 2024, according to one letter shared with the locals.
Everything currently available about Sorry, Baby
Other than critical reviews of the film, we have really limited information about the film. Neither A24 has released a trailer from where we can get some glimpse of what to expect from the film.
However, a fun incident happened when it was filming. There's a place in Essex called J.T. Farnham’s, which has been a staple for dining in the area. The crew rented it for filming and changed the name to Sandy Pete’s Sandwiches. This caused a stir among the locals but things cleared out pretty quickly.
The letter shared by the crew with the locals mentions "sandwich" in it, which explains the changes in the region. It reads,
"Sorry, Baby is a dark comedy that follows a grad student over four years after a traumatic event. She seeks out comfort in her best friend, a kitten, and a really good sandwich."
That pretty much explains the plot too.
Regarding the film's cast, here's a list of actors other than Eva Victor, who is playing Agnes, who was part of the film.
- Naomi Ackie as Lydie
- Lucas Hedges as Gavin
- John Carroll Lynch as Pete
- Louis Cancelmi as Decker
- Kelly McCormack as Natasha
- E. R. Fightmaster as Fran

What is Sorry, Baby is about?
The members of the film interacted with media persons during the Sundance Fest and explained their experiences about it. In simple terms, Sorry, Baby is about healing, which is true for Eva Victor too. She goes on to explain that,
"The experience, that this character goes through is all about feeling alone and isolated in the making of this film made me feel very seen and, I felt very held in the making of it. So in a meta way, it's been a very healing time."
Victor's Agnes is a young professor in a college where we are likely to see glimpses from her traumatic past as she moves on with her life. While the topic the movie centers around is something hard to be given a touch of comedy, Eva Victor manages to sprinkle humor in her directorial debut.
