The first time that Sonic the Hedgehog arrived on the screen back in 2020, the production turned out to be one of the most popular video-game adaptations of all time. This was soon followed by the sequel released in 2021 which did fairly well, too. Now a threequel or third installment is on the way, making sure that Sonic the Hedgehog rules the waves of audience admiration.
The third installment of Sonic the Hedgehog will drop on December 20, 2024, and will be brought to the audiences by Paramount Pictures. Contrary to the first two editions of the franchise, the upcoming installment will be premiering in the holiday season, hoping to cash in on the festive mood.
Ben Schwartz will be reprising his role as the voice of the titular character while Jim Carrey, Idris Elba, and Keanu Reeves will be headlining the ensemble cast in conjunction with several other notable names.
All three popular characters viz Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles will be featured in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. It can be expected that the character of Shadow the Hedgehog will turn out to be the primary antagonist, with Sonic and the others enlisting the help of Dr. Robotnik to ensure peace. When will Sonic the Hedgehog 3 release?
The film will be available at theatres near you on December 20, 2024. The film will be exclusively released theatrically and there isn't any official confirmation on whether it will be later made available on a streaming platform.
The film is directed by Jeff Fowler and produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher; Toru Nakahara, Hitoshi Okuno. Tom Holkenborg has composed the music for the film and it will be distributed worldwide by Paramount Pictures.

As mentioned earlier, the titular character of Sonic will once again be voiced by Ben Schwartz. Alongside him, Colleen O'Shaughnessey will voice Miles 'Tails' Prower and Idris Elba will voice Knuckles the Echidna. The third installment can be expected to take place directly in the aftermath of the second edition. The climax of Sonic 2 introduced the idea of Super Sonic, which is essentially Sonic fuelled by the Chaos Emeralds. The audiences can expect a further in-depth exploration of this idea in the upcoming installment.
Since Sonic 2 came to an end with Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails together as a trio, it can be further expected that the three will come together once again for the threequel. Apart from this, it can also be speculated that Shadow the Hedgehog, who was introduced in Sonic 2 will prove to be the chief antagonist of the threequel, so much so that Sonic and the others will have to take recourse from Dr. Robotnik to defeat him.
