“So epic and visually arresting”: Warner Bros CEO hypes up David Corenswet’s Superman as a modern-day classic

The news of James Gunn's Superman is slowly, but surely, getting fans hyped for the movie. Henry Cavill may have left as the Man of Steel (something we can never forget), but the recent sneak peek, where the Fortress of Solitude emerged from the snow and Krypto added another broken bone in his best friend's body was a cinematic feat.

Add the recent comment by the co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Pictures, Michael De Luca, and you'll get restless to see the film. Don't be though; it's less than three months away.

James Gunn's Superman is all set to release on July 11, 2025.

Mike Fleming Jr. of Deadline, who has known the Warner Bros. CEO Mike De Luca for a long time, asked him to show us what's going on behind the doors. He shared a lot, but for Superman, De Luca said,

"I love Superman. I think James Gunn has crushed it. It’s got tons of his trademark heart and humor and the action is jaw dropping. It’s the Superman I grew up with, so I get choked up when I watch it. I think it’s so epic and visually arresting and emotional. The performances are great. It is a five-star movie to me, and I can’t wait for the world to see it. Yeah, we’re really excited about Superman, James crushed it."

David Corenswet is the new Clark Kent, and joining him in this new vibrant James Gunn adventure are Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner (he looks beautifully nuts, just lovely), and more.

Before James Gunn finally jumped on to direct the upcoming DC film, he chose to go for The Suicide Squad, his take on the group of ragtag antiheroes. That was easier for him in contrast to this, as he explained during CinemaCon.

This comes from GamesRadar+, who was present at the CinemaCon when Gunn was talking about his DC experience. Gunn then shared the inspiration for his take on the new Superman film. On that, he said,

"It also has all the fantastic elements that we've never really seen in a Superman movie: the flying dog, the giant Kaiju, pocket universes, science and sorcery, and all these things that were in the old Max Fleischer cartoons."

Max Fleischer was active between 1914 and 1962, where, other than Superman, he brought characters like Koko the Clown, Betty Boop, Popeye, and more to life. Considering this, fans should prepare themselves for a potentially nostalgic ride this July.

What's next for Gunn after Superman?

The David Corenswet film is just a kickstarter of the larger DC Universe that Peter Safran and James Gunn have envisioned. This is the beginning of DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Clayface will follow after this in 2026.

The rest of the feature films, including The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and more, don't have a release date yet. Other than movies, TV shows sharing Gunn's DC Universe include Creature Commandos, Peacemaker (you can see him again, yeah!), and more.
