Snow White: Everything we know about Disney's upcoming live-action remake

Disney's upcoming live-action remake Snow White is a musical fantasy film starring Golden Globe Award-winning actress Rachel Zegler in the lead role. Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot will play The Evil Queen. Walt Disney Pictures has produced the film with director Marc Webb and screenwriters Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.

The movie is a live-action remake of the 1937 animated piece Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs. The original story dates back to the 1812 fairy novel Snow White created by the Brothers Grimm.

The first plans for producing a live-action remake were announced by Walt Disney in 2016. It took six years for filming to officially begin in the United Kingdom and took place in March-July, 2022. Some of the additional shots were taken in 2024.


When will Snow White be released?

Disney's 2025 live-action remake Snow White will be theatrically released on March 21, 2025. The movie was originally set for March 2024 but it got delayed due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, as per Disney. The first official trailer was released on December 3, 2024, where fans got a glimpse of Snow White's magical journey.


What is the story of Snow White?

A synopsis of Snow White reads:

"Disney's live-action Snow White trailer highlights Rachel Zegler's singing. It introduces the seven dwarfs and features Gal Gadot as the evil queen. "

Disney's live-action remake Snow White resembles the look from the original animated film where we see the princess' adventures through the magical kingdom as well as the enchanted woods. The trailer also portrays The Evil Queen (Gal Gadot) and her confrontations with Snow White.

Since the movie has been reimagined from Disney's animated story Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, we can expect the plot to unravel in a way similar to that of the 1937 classic. The story revolves around a beautiful and kind-hearted princess (Snow White) and her clashes with a jealous Queen (The Evil Queen).

Her evil character and motive to cause harm to her stepdaughter are the two major things that will drive the plot. Fans will also be introduced with the Seven Dwarfs who will reportedly play crucial roles in Snow White's adventures.


Who is in the cast of Snow White?

The live-action musical fantasy Snow White will portray a star-studded cast with West Side Story icon Rachel Zegler taking the lead role Snow White. Alongside her we have DC Universe star Gal Gadot playing the part of The Evil Queen, the antagonist.

Emilia Faucher will reportedly be cast as young Snow White. Among others in the cast, we have:

  • Andrew Burnap as Jonathan
  • Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman
  • Martin Klebba as Grumpy
  • Dujonna Gift as Maple
  • Colin Michael Carmichael as Farno

Snow White director Marc Webb is best known for his work in The Amazing Spiderman series. On the production team, we have Marc Platt, Russel Allen, and Callum McDougall. The dwarves have been portrayed using CGI as fans see in the new trailer.
