Sinners cast and character guide: Who plays whom in Michael B. Jordan's upcoming horror film?

The upcoming horror film Sinners starring Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld is set for a theatrical release in the United States in 2025. Ryan Coogler is the man behind the lens and has also produced the movie alongside Proximity Media.

The story revolves around twin brothers Elijah and Elias (Michael B. Jordan's dual role) who plan and leave their troubled pasts behind and return to their home turf. However, things go sideways when they realize that an even greater evil force is waiting to welcome them back. We also have Jack O'Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, and Jayme Lawson in pivotal roles.

The official synopsis of Sinners reads:

"Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back."

Sinners will be a reunion between helmer Ryan Coogler and lead star Michael B. Jordan since their first project together - Fruitvale Station (which was Coogler's directorial debut). Pitch Perfect star and Golden Globe-nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld has also got a crucial spot in the cast. Here is a list of all the important characters we will see in the movie Sinners.

(1) Michael B. Jordan as twins Elijah and Elias (dual role)

Michael B. Jordan has been cast in a dual role where we will see him playing both Elijah and Elias - twin brothers. As per reports, the characters have their dark sides and try to escape from a past they don't want to recall. However, the twins end up in a series of supernatural events that turn their lives upside down.

Jordan has done notable work as Oscar Grant in the movie Fruitvale Station (2013). He has played the iconic role of Adonis Creed in the Creed trilogy(2015-2023) and has also been associated with Marvel projects namely Fantastic Four (2015) and Black Panther (2018).

(2) Hailee Steinfeld as Mary

The Edge Of Seventeen star Hailee Steinfeld will play the role of a woman named Mary. Though her character is largely being kept under wraps, it is evident that her link to the twin brothers (Elijah and Elias) is a major driving force behind the plot of Sinners.

Hailee's breakthrough project is the 2010 Western film True Grit. She has also played key roles in the Pitch Perfect franchise (2015-2017) and Keira Knightley's musical drama Begin Again (2013).

(3) Wunmi Mosaku as Annie

Wunmi Mosaku will reportedly play the role of Annie in Sinners. Her involvment in the plot is yet unclear but she will evidently act as a supporting character. Wunmi has bagged the BAFTA Award for her role in Damilola, Our Loved Boy (a 2016 TV film) as the Best Supporting Actress.

She has also played the role of Hunter B-15 in MCU's TV show Loki. Wunmi's part in the 2020 horror thriller film His House has earned her BAFTA nomintation and the British Independent Film Award.

(4) Jack O' Connell

Though we do not have the name of Jack O' Connell's character, he will reportedly play the antagonist in Sinners. The BAFTA Rising Star awardee has done notable work in the 2014 war film Unbroken. He has also been associated with multiple movies and series namely Eden Lake (the 2019 slasher), Godless (Netflix's 2017 miniseries), Trial By Fire (2018) and BBC's The North Water (2021).

(5) Delroy Lindo as Slim

Tony Award-winning actor Delroy George Lindo will play the part of Slim in Sinners. He appears as a mysterious character in the movie and will reportedly add value to story. Delroy's notable projects include Gone In 60 Seconds (2000), The Good Fight (2017-2021) and Da 5 Bloods (2020).

When will Sinners be released?

Warner Bros. Pictures will theatrically release Sinners in the United States on April 18, 2025. Filming began in April, 2024 and was wrapped up by July. Though Sinners was initially set for premiere in March, 2025, it was pushed to April due to post-production delays.
