After earning critical acclaim at various film festivals, Seven Veils is finally headed for a theatrical release on March 7, 2025. The drama film brings together the Oscar-nominated director and actor duo, Atom Egoyan and Amanda Seyfried.

Seyfried stars in the lead role as Jeanine, a theater director who returns to the stage after a hiatus of a few years. However, her troubled past collides with her work, leading to some dark revelations.

Seven Veils: Release date update

Seven Veils will be released in cinemas across the US on Friday, March 7, 2025. The film is distributed by XYZ Films and Variance Films. The theatrical release comes a year and a half after the film’s festival release, as it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023.

At the time, the movie was listed among the Top Ten Canadian films of the year. Seven Veils was later also screened at the Atlantic International Film Festival, the Victoria Film Festival, and the Vancouver International Film Festival.


Seven Veils: Storyline explored

The film revolves around Jeanine, a young director, who is asked to bring back an old production of Richard Strauss’s opera. But as she works on it, she realizes that her past is strangely connected to the show.

As she deals with a traumatic relationship with her mentor, the opera’s themes of power and obsession start to feel real in her own life. The official synopsis for the movie reads:

“After years away, theater director Jeanine re-enters the opera world to stage her former mentor’s most famous work. Haunted by dark and disturbing memories from her past, Jeanine allows her repressed trauma to color the present as her personal and professional lives begin to unravel.”

The movie stars Amanda Seyfried as Jeanine. The actress is known for her roles in the films Mank, Mamma Mia!, Red Riding Hood, and A Million Ways to Die in the West. She is joined by Rebecca Liddiard, who plays Clea. Liddiard is famous for her performances in the shows Frankie Drake Mysteries and Ruby and the Well.

Big Love actor, Douglas Smith, stars as Luke, and Halt and Catch Fire actor Mark O'Brien portrays Paul. German-based opera singer, Michael Kupfer-Radecky plays Johann, Canadian soprano Ambur Braid plays Ambur, and General Hospital star, Vinessa Antoine, portrays Rachel.
