Sebastian Stan was born on August 13, 1982 in Constanța, Romania. He and his mother moved to Austria before moving back to Rockland County, New York. Growing up in a Romanian Orthodox family, Sebastian was introduced to acting in high school.


He played the lead in several high school plays at this time. He chose to focus on a future career as a professional actor after honing his acting skills at a summer camp. He attended Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts to study acting after high school. He was given the opportunity to study Shakespeare and perform at the legendary Globe Theatre in London for a year as part of the program. Stan received his degree from Rutgers in 2005.

Sebastian was already getting roles in popular projects before he had graduated from college. He began making appearances in films as early as 1994, including "71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance." He got his first significant television role in a 2003 episode of "Law & Order." He grew more interested in film throughout the following years, making cameos in films such as "The Architect" and "The Covenant."


After landing a recurring role in "Gossip Girl," as Carter Baizen, in 2007, Sebastian played a lead role in another TV show called "Kings" two years later. In addition to his significant role in "Black Swan," he also starred as the primary antagonist in "Hot Tub Time Machine" in 2010.


Stan made his big break in 2011 when he got the opportunity to play Bucky Barnes in "Captain America: The First Avenger." He would return to this beloved role numerous times in the future, marking the start of his lengthy journey into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
