Toby Kebbell plays a boxer past his glory years in Salvable, a British drama film that also stars Shia LaBeouf. Lionsgate released the trailer on March 26, and it shows the boxer seeking redemption as he tries to mend his relationship with his young daughter. LaBeouf stars as his friend, who might do him more harm than good.

The film's synopsis reads,

"Shia LaBeouf and Toby Kebbell star in an emotional, action-packed film about a prize fighter’s battles both inside and outside the ring. When a battered boxer past his prime finds his dreams and his relationships on the ropes, he falls back in with a dangerous crowd and has to take the biggest swing of his life to reclaim his hope and his family."

Björn Franklin has written this film and co-directed with Johnny Marchetta. This boxing film marks Franklin and Marchetta's directorial debut. They have previously worked on music videos for artists like Calum Scott and Gabrielle Aplin and co-directed two short films titled Fred and Forgive Me Journal.

When will Salvable be released? Everything we know so far

Salvable, starring Toby Kebbell and Shia LaBeouf, is scheduled to be released in the US theaters on May 2, 2025. It will debut on-demand and digital on the same day. So, the viewers have more options to watch this film from the comfort of their homes.

The film was reported to be in the works by Deadline in February 2024. Upon the announcement, writer and co-director Björn Franklin shared a heartfelt note about their project:

"It’s hard to capture the full depth of this moment, but here goes. ‘Salvable’ began as a scribble in my son’s bedroom/home office 2 and a half years back. From a chaotic 6-week first draft to 26 drafts filled with every shade of emotion later, we’re now bringing it to life. It’s surreal—like stepping right into the dreams we had as kids."

He further adds,

"And not only that, but I’m on this journey with my best mate, [co-director] Johnny Marchetta, from starting a band 15 years ago to directing our debut feature film. Together, we’ve dreamed big and faced hurdles, and now, we’re making those dreams a reality. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude and can’t help but share this joy with the world."

What is the plot of Salvable?

The trailer for Salvable has dropped online, courtesy of Lionsgate Movies, and it offers a glimpse into the film's gritty world. It revolves around Sal, a boxer in Ireland, who tries to stay committed to his sport and get his mojo back. However, that is difficult when Vince, a recently released convict, tries to pull him back to the criminal world.

It also affects Sal's bond with his teenage daughter. The trailer offers a glimpse into their strained relationship and his struggle to find emotional peace. In that context, it feels similar to Darren Aronofsky's 2008 film The Wrestler, which follows Mickey Rourke in a similar journey of redemption as an aging wrestler.
