The plot of Rust revolves around a man named Harland Rust who has been off the radar for quite some time. Being an outlaw who is also tackling old age, life has recently not been so easy on him.

However, things go even more awry for Rust after his teenage grandson Lucas Hollister (Patrick Scott McDermott portrays) gets entangled in a case of accidental killing of a townsman and local rancher. As Lucas faces a death sentence and is almost about to hang, Harland Rust appears out of the blue and helps him break out of imprisonment.

Following this, the two fugitives go on the run towards Mexico. But things do not cool off so easily, as the duo is soon tailed by Fenton "Preacher" Lang, a dangerous bounty hunter (portrayed by Travis Fimmel), and Sheriff Wood Helm (played by Josh Hopkins). The premise of Rust is reportedly set in Kansas, USA, and dates back to the 80s.

Who is in the cast of Rust?

Mission: Impossible star and Academy Award-nominated actor Alec Baldwin will lead the cast of Rust alongside co-star Josh Hopkins (best known for his work in ABC sitcom Cougar Town). Hopkins will play the role of an ambitious U.S. Marshal named Wood Helm who goes on a quest to catch Rust and his grandson Lucas.

Vikings star Travis Fimmel (who also had a major part in Dune: Prophecy) will portray a ruthless and dangerous bounty hunter, Preacher. Among others in the cast, we have

  • Frances Fisher (in the role of Lucas Hollister's grandmother)
  • Devon Werkheiser (playing the part of Boone LaFontaine)

Per Variety, the accidental on-set death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins led to legal complications that reportedly got lead star Alec Baldwin involved in a case of involuntary manslaughter. This caused unforeseen production delays; however, things waned off after the actual name Hannah Gutierrez Reed came up, according to Variety, and eventually, things got back on track.
