Roses is an upcoming short film in the period Western genre and stars Andrew Matarazzo. The Teen Wolf actor will star in the lead role in this film set in the 1800s. Short films are an engaging format that is slowly being revived.
The film is helmed by Alexander Rain, who has experience on television shows. Overall, it offers a host of interesting and talented artists coming together. There are very few short films in the period and spaghetti western genre, which gives Roses another reason to be an outlier.
Shooting of Roses ends
Recently, Variety reported that the shooting for Roses had wrapped up.
The shooting of Roses started on December 16, 2025, and took a month and a half to complete. The film is produced by Brian Pendleton under the banner of Drama Kween Inc., along with Josh Farnworth, with Daniel Mark as the director of photography.
Once the post-production ends, the team plans to send the film to different film festivals for screening and possible distribution.
What is the plot of Roses?
The story takes place in 1881 and revolves around two people who are outlaws and have to deal with a bounty on their heads.
The official synopsis of the film is:
“Two outlaws (Matarazzo and Rubinstein), once close partners in crime, find themselves at odds when a once-in-a-lifetime bounty comes into play. But what seems like a simple betrayal is complicated by their deep bond and shared history, leading to a heartbreaking choice between the loot… or their friendship.”
Roses stars Ronen Rubinstein and Orlando Pineda in the lead roles along with Matarazzo. Rain is known for acting in the television show 9-1-1 Lone Star, playing the role of TK. Meanwhile, Pineda was seen in Netflix's true crime show Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Matarazzo is mainly remembered for his performance in Teen Wolf as Gabe. The role gave him a launch, and he then went on to do several films and shows.
Once the film gets picked up by a film festival, we will get to know when and where it will have its world premiere.
Recently, Matarazzo took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a picture with Ruben. Another picture showcased the actor being projected on a monitor. The Brazilian-American performer wrote:
"Big day for Roses! Its surpassed my wildest dreams. And I won’t forget that it was you guys who planted the seeds to make it grow to what it is now w Ronen Rubinstein"
Matarazzo started his career by doing short films that did well in their festival run. Subsequently, he played a brief role on many television shows, such as Criminal Minds and Faking It. Some of his other acting credits include Jane the Virgin, Acting for a Cause Solar Opposites, etc.
Matarazzo's pivot behind the camera showcases his interest in telling certain stories in his own way. People who follow his work are reportedly excited about the short film.
