Rema released his latest studio album, Heis, on July 10, 2024. The album, and more specifically, its lead single, Benin Boys, draws more heavily from Nigerian culture and history, with Rema elaborating on the topic in an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone on June 21, 2024:

"I hit Shallipopi up; I told him to pull up to my studio [in Lagos], and he did. We made three songs that day, but that was the first one we made. We always knew coming together, when we’re cooking up something, it has to be something that expresses where we are from."

Rema continued:

"We’re from different hoods, so he would definitely be the perfect person to express his hood, me express my hood, and then in combination, just express Southside, Edo State in general. Edo is the state, Benin is the city. Bini is the culture."

Rema rose to prominence in commercial music circles with his debut album, Rave & Roses, released on March 25, 2022. The album led to a collaboration with Selena Gomez on the song Calm Down, while itself gaining platinum certifications after release.
