Derived from a novella written by William S. Burroughs, the film Queer stars Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville, and many others.
The film was directed by the Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, who has previously directed films and series including The Protagonists (1999), I Am Love (2009), A Bigger Splash (2015), Call Me By Your Name (2017), We Are Who We Are (2020), Bones And All (2022), and Challengers (2024).
Set in 1950s Mexico City, Queer follows a solitary man named William Lee, who, upon meeting a young man named Eugene, becomes motivated to form a significant and deep relationship with him. The film has a compelling soundtrack that is relevant for both the 1950s and the contemporary times. Its music elevates its storytelling as well as the characters' emotions.

The soundtrack of Queer has an amalgamation of classic songs by iconic bands from history and songs performed by Reznor and Ross. The film's soundtrack is poignant, thoughtful and visceral. They keep alive the flavour of the original novella, as well as the vision of Guadagnino.
About the process of making the musical score for the film, Atticus Ross, while speaking to GQ, elucidates on it by saying:
"There wasn't a specific note for Queer, and it was a bit harder to get into. We knew how much it meant to him, but he didn't have [a specific reference]. On Challengers, he [Luca Guadagnino] said, “I think I hear dance music. Would that work or not?” And then we go off on that path and find out, and Challengers is what it is. There wasn't that kind of clarity from a musical position on Queer.
The statement continues:
He threw out lots of different things that were kind of riddles to solve, but, eventually, what we decided on was leaning into Burroughs and the idea of the cut-up technique and using samplers. It felt like an organic way to tell the story musically."
The original soundtrack of the movie is accessible on Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music. Only the music scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross is clubbed in an album named Queer (Original Score). The rest of the songs are available individually in their respective original albums.
