The approaching sports biopic titled Queen of the Ring, which stars the Arrow actress Emily Bett Rickards as professional wrestling icon Mildred Burke is all set to shine bright upon a spotlight on one of history's most inspiring sports person.

Re-counting Burke’s ride to becoming the first million-dollar female athlete in a sport once dictated by men, Queen of the Ring deals with a captivating story of resilience and change and aims to engage its viewers with its inspiring story and impressive performances.

When will the film be released?

Queen of the Ring is all set to be released in theatres on March 7, 2025, and fans of wrestling may mark their calendars.

The film's very first screening was back in 2024 at the Buffalo Film Festival where it gained a significant amount of praise and love setting the bar of expectations high for when it comes out on the big screens.

What do we know about the plot of Queen of the Ring?

The official synopsis for the film reads-

“In a time when pro wrestling for women was illegal all over the country, a small-town single mother embraces the danger to change culture as she dominates America’s most masculine sport to become the first million-dollar female athlete in history.”

Queen of the Ring dives inside the true story of Mildred Burke, a small-town single mom who challenged societal norms by arriving into a sport i.e. professional wrestling, that had been male-centric since the dawn of time.

With Queen of the Ring being set when women’s wrestling was prohibited across most of the US, the film tries to journey through Burke’s bravery in fighting and challenging these norms and restrictions against women.

Her domination in the sport of wrestling not just only broke off the gender barriers but also paved the way for female athletes to gain acknowledgment, respect, and success in their fields of work.

Queen of the Ring as a film has been based on author Jeff Leen’s critically acclaimed book, The Queen of the Ring: S*x, Muscles, Diamonds, and the Making of an American Legend. The film Queen of the Ring has been penned down by and also directed by Ash Avildsen, who is known for American Satan.
