Batman fans have been patiently waiting for any adaptation featuring Gotham's protector for a while. When James Gunn announced that the upcoming DCU movie featuring The Dark Knight would also have Damien Wayne's Robin, fans were excited. However, almost two years later, we haven't had much movement with the movie, titled The Brave and the Bold. Fans' hopes lit up recently, though.

James Gunn Has provided a few major DCU updates. Firstly, he confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 and Superman are in the post-production stage. Then, Gunn revealed he is watching the dailies of other DCU projects and, more importantly, the filmmaker dropped a bomb by informing fans that he was performing pre-writing duties for an unnamed DCU project. According to Total Film, he said:

"The bulk of my time is dealing with post-production on Superman and Peacemaker, but I’m also spending a fair amount of time pre-writing my next DC Studios project and watching dailies and offering ideas on the other projects. It’s much less overwhelming than when I was directing."

Fan reactions to James Gunn pre-writing the next DCU project and why are they hoping that it is Batman

It is imperative to note that nothing about the DCU Batman movie is official as of today. The latest official update about the movie was back in the third week of December when Andy Muschietti, the director of the solo Batman project, The Brave and the Bold, said the movie was "postponed." However, Gunn clarified that the script for The Brave and the Bold wasn't ready yet.

Many DC fans aren't optimistic about Muschietti's involvement with The Brave and the Bold, and hope that James Gunn is somehow involved in the Batman movie. This week's major revelation has them hoping that Gunn, who directs the upcoming Superman, will also write a new movie featuring Batman.

Fans took to Reddit speculating about the unnamed DCU project James Gunn was pre-writing. One fan suggested a Booster Gold project was on the way:

Booster Gold would make sense if you consider the character has been underutilized. He is a bit of a loser who slowly progresses toward becoming a more heroic figure. This premise is ripe with comedic possibilities.

Another fan speculated that the untitled DCU project James Gunn was pre-writing was The Brave and the Bold:

Gunn has been on record saying that The Brave and the Bold script is not up to the mark. It might be possible that James Gunn himself can punch up the script for the Batman movie, so that it is finally worth being greenlit.

However, two fans came up with similar ideas, on what Gunn's likely writing assignment would be about:

Both these Redditors vouch for The Authority because James Gunn himself had confirmed the iconic comicbook series as his passion project. The Authority, in simple words, features characters who see themselves as heroes while engaging in morally dubious activities. James Gunn was once quoted saying this about The Authority:

“They are basically good-intentioned, but they think that the world is completely broken and the only way to fix it is to take things into their own hands, whether that means killing people, destroying heads of state, changing governments — basically, whatever they want to do to make the world better”

Apart from the Booster Gold TV series, The Brave and the Bold, and The Authority, there are several other shows that Gunn could be writing. For Instance, there is the Walller series, Creature Commandos Season 2, Paradise Lost, or Lanterns. We have to wait for an official announcement for the next DCU project after Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Lanterns.
