As reported by Hotnewhiphop, ahead of the rapper's performance, Rolling Loud Co-founder, Tariq Cherif, stated in an Instagram Live, that the rapper had talked to him and stated he was going to perform songs from the new album:
"When I got back from Thailand, Playboi Carti called me. We started talking about the album. He's like, 'Yo I'm play that sh*t at Rolling Loud. You saw him post it, I don't know what he gonna do, he told you he's gonna play that sh*t."
Cherif continued:
"I heard it on FaceTime ... He got another one, with that guy he got another song with, and OUUUUU that sh*t is crazy."
Playboi Carti previously teased that he would play the music from his new album on November 27, 2024. The response to his teaser at the time was lukewarm among fans, with many skeptical that he would perform at the event at all.
The performance of unreleased songs came at a time when Carti's third studio album, I Am Music, had been delayed back-to-back for nearly four years. The album was first teased in 2021, and has not been released since then.
Playboi Carti wraps the year with Rolling Loud Miami
Playboi Carti's performance at Rolling Loud will be his final performance of the year, as of the writing of this article. The singer is currently not scheduled to perform anywhere within the last few days remaining of the year and in the early years of the next year.
The singer has previously talked with Crack magazine in an article published on May 17, 2021, on his vision for the rest of his career and his legacy, stating:
"Just getting older and just getting wiser, my image – the way I just want to be remembered on this earth is: I was different. I thought about my legacy, and it’s like when you have these type of artists in the world and you watch all these transitions they do, you gotta learn to appreciate that because it’s not a lot of dudes that step out the box."
The singer continued:
"Really being comfortable in doing this shit and going against the grain, even if it’s not accepted at first. It’s great because it’s something that I started, and I just want to be remembered for the things I started.”
The singer later went on to state that his music was his first career:
"It’s like, ‘OK, this is how I’m coming and there are no days off.’ Like I’m a clean ni**a, and when I pop out it’s a statement every time. That’s a side job of mine. I’m a musician. I make music first and with the rest, that’s just natural.”
Playboi Carti is best known for his album Whole Lotta Red, which was released on December 25, 2020, via AWGE and Interscope Records respectively. The album was his first chart-topping record in the US.
