The Amazon Prime rom-com Picture This tries to get Pia, played by Simone Ashley, a soulmate but fails because she already has one, Charlie (Hero Fiennes Tiffin). But it isn't until the lead actress has gone through her dates set up by her family that she realizes none of them click with her.
After all the turmoil Pia is going through, she eventually confesses her feelings for Charlie, and both end up together. Though there is no sequel or anything planned, people might have noticed that she was supposed to meet five men for dating to find her soulmate; Charlie was only the fourth.
Picture This builds upon Pia's ruins, who might be the lead of the movie but is, as her sister Sonal (Anoushka Chadha) puts it, a "self-involved, difficult, spoiled" character, as fans will see throughout the film. It is about her transformation, where the characters certainly are pivotal to her journey, which is clear at the end.
How did Pia end up with Charlie?
Picture this, viewers. You have someone in your life, and you promised each other something. You kept your end of things, but they didn't. This is actually what happens between Pia and Charlie. Our diva Pia and the hotshot Charlie used to be former flames of each other, and the former is your "they" here.
They used to date in school, but following their education's end, they parted ways to follow their own paths. Pia goes to the university while Charlie goes back to his family to help them out in their business. However, they both agree upon meeting at a certain place at a certain time.
As we said, Charlie kept his end of the promise and was there at the place they decided. However, Pia emphasizes the fact that he never visited her at the university. The scene clearly shows how she is trying to move under the radar. Truly, "self-involved, difficult, spoiled." All of this is revealed during a conversation when he drives Pia home.
But Picture This gives us a happy ending as the self-involved gets involved with Charlie, this time for good, at the end as she kisses him, showing the audience that he is, in fact, her soulmate; he always was.
But what about Pia's rest of the dates in Picture This?
In the present, before Charlie, there were Sid, Akshay, and Milo, who are set up by Pia's family so she can hopefully find her soulmate, as this priest has prophesied in Picture This. Even Lord Voldemort (who is actually played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin, father of Ralph Fiennes) couldn't escape the prophecy; how can muggles here?
So she first meets with Sid (Asim Chaudhry), who is more interested in doing business than a relationship. Even in the trailer, we see how enthusiastic he is, and Pia's expressions clearly tell us that this isn't likely to be the one.
Then we have Akshay (Nikesh Patel). Let's just say he is more into her mother, Laxmi (Sindhu Vee), so there goes the date. Finally, there's Milo, an actor. But then no one would want to stay with a flat-earther in the 21st century.
Interestingly, there's no fourth date. Though Pia does imply that Jay (Luke Fetherston), her best friend, is her best date of all when he is there while she is mopping her room, we all know it doesn't count.
We must say, the creators played well here. On one hand, they met the prophecy by labeling Jay as a date. On the other, he isn't really a date, which gives Pia four dates in Picture This. So if things don't work out with Charlie, then they can go ahead with a fifth date in case creators are planning a sequel.
