Back in 2018, Tom Cruise appeared on British television host Graham Norton's show to talk about Mission Impossible: Fallout, which was about to be released around that time. He was asked about a stunt piece in the film to which he responded with:

"I spent really two years McQuy (director Christopher McQuarrie) and I were talking about a sequence and it's an aerial sequence with helicopter and I've wanted I've studied you know many different films and so when I went and I got my helicopter license and we're flying.."

At this moment, Norton interrupted hilariously and quipped that he was surprised that Cruise did not have a helicopter license already. Cruise finished the story with:

"Yeah and then we just started really working on the sequence to see what we can do practical I mean I think in terms of action this is probably the largest practical action film ever shot when you look at the films there's no CGI so we're going through Paris, the motorcycle it's just full-on cars you know we're all doing our own stunts and the helicopter sequence is just incredibly exhilarating and very dangerous so there's really only one country that would allow us to do it where we had to build special camera rigs and for the helicopter."

The actor further said that he trained in aerobatics and spoke about his chase sequences with Henry Cavill. Cruise first portrayed Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible, which came out in 1996. Its success was followed by Mission Impossible 2 and 3, which were released in 2000 and 2006.

The later installments of the franchise include Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, Fallout, and Dead Reckoning Part One. Cruise will be reprising his role in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning which will be released by Paramount Pictures on May 23, 2025.
