Jurassic World's seventh addition to the franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth, is here, and fans are already glued to their seats to go back to the modern Mesozoic Era. Led by Jonathon Bailey and Scarlett Johansson, Jurassic World Rebirth will follow both actors as they set out on an expedition to explore dinosaurs' DNA for research.
The trailer for the film, which was released yesterday, saw Johansson and Bailey as they explored the islands and faced new challenges while extracting DNA from the prehistoric beasts. However, much speculation has followed around the backdrop of the trailer. On which island is Jurassic World Rebirth set?
As is known to fans, previous Jurassic Park films have explored two islands—Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna, known as Islands A and B. The new film, however, seems to take place on a new island, Island C, which has not yet been scouted around.
What is Site C, the isle that Jurassic World Rebirth is set in?
We can confirm that Isla Nublar is not the backdrop of Jurassic World Rebirth, seeing as Mount Sibo, the volcano, destroyed the island in 2018. Following this, Eli Mills sent a team to extract the surviving dinosaurs to sell them off. As of now, the island is abandoned and stands as a barren wasteland after the damage inflicted on it by the volcano and the lack of inhabitants.
Could the island in Jurassic World Rebirth be Site B, then? Isla Sorna could have been a possible backdrop to Jurassic World Rebirth, but the trailer includes a scene where Bailey's character, Dr. Henry Loomis, is heard saying that this island was chosen as the home to three dinosaurs who were unfit to be in the original parks.
This has led to fan theories exploring a possible Site C being the location where the new film is set. The unnamed Site C served as a home to plenty of dinosaurs when Site B ran out of space. The site is noted to be 24 square kilometers and is home to a good number of dinosaurs. The trailer also states that the site was the research facility for the original Jurassic Park.
Many have speculated that Site C could also be the location where the team ran tests and experiments to explore dinosaur genes and research on them. It was most likely abandoned by InGen after the formation of the parks. Jurassic World Rebirth will bring light to the deadly dinosaurs that walk on this unexplored site as fans come to terms with the threat they hold and the genetic experiments that did not turn out how the geneticists wanted.
More details on Jurassic World Rebirth
Jurassic World Rebirth is led by Scarlett Johansson, Jonathon Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. They are joined by Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Ed Skrein. The film is being directed by Gareth Edwards, who is making his debut in the franchise. However, Edwards has notable science fiction movies to his name, having made Monsters, Godzilla, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
A part of the official synopsis of the film reads,
"Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind."
Jurassic World Rebirth is set to hit theaters on July 2, 2025.
