Of Montreal released its seventh studio album, The Sunlandic Twins, on April 12, 2005. The album furthered the band's forays into electronic music and consisted of 13 tracks on the standard edition, with 6 more tracks on the bonus EP.

Montreal's most recent album is Lady on the Cusp, which was released on May 17, 2024. Kevin Barnes of Of Montreal talked about the album in an exclusive interview with The Creative Independent, stating in the article that was published on the publication's website on July 29, 2024:

"I usually try to get some different instruments or different synths, just to have different palettes to work with from album to album. So with this record, I got into cheap, crappy ’90s synths that nobody wants anymore. I thought it would be interesting to use something that’s very un-hip or whatever."

The singer continued:

"And try to not necessarily do something that’s a pastiche, but something that’s in my own style, but just having those be the sounds that I had to work with. I always try to do something a little bit different from album to album just because it’s boring to do the same thing over and over again."

He later talked about working with artists on the album's videos, replying to the question of the creative process on the videos:

"What I understand from the little amount of gig work I’ve done and the gig work that my partner Christina has done is that I should just hire someone whose work I like and then just be like, “Do your thing.” I can just imagine how annoying it’d be like if I were saying, “Oh, can you change this thing or can you change that thing?” Because there’s no point in hiring somebody if you don’t love what they do.

The singer continued:

"And so if you do love what they do, then just get out of their way and let them do it. With Madeline, she made the “Young Hearts Bleed Free” video and one for a song that’s coming out on Tuesday. Basically she’ll present an idea like, “This is my concept.” And then I’m always just like, “Cool, let’s do it.”

Of Montreal's Lady on the Cusp is their nineteenth studio album and their first since 2022's Freewave Lucifer F<ck F^ck F>ck. The album consists of a total of 10 tracks and runs to a length of 34:56.
