The opening night of the 20th Zurich Film Festival will take place on October 3, 2024, and will present the political thriller by Jude Law, The Order. Law, also a producer in this film, will attend the festival and will be celebrated with the Golden Eye Award for his career and performance in this film, as confirmed by Variety.

Directed by Justin Kurzel, The Order follows an FBI agent, played by Law, who faces off against a far-right terroristic group in '80s America. Since its bow in Venice and its North American bow in Toronto, the film has continued to receive heavy critical acclaim.

Christian Jungen, the festival director in Zurich, told Deadline:

“Jude Law is an absolute dream guest…he carries The Order from A to Z with his charisma”

Jude Law’s career receives the Golden Eye Award

The Golden Eye Award is a high honor for actors. Among the famous winners, are Mads Mikkelsen, Diane Kruger, and Kristen Stewart. This year, it goes to Jude Law, which showcases his career and projects with directors like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Wes Anderson.

Jude Law's career started in the 1990s and includes iconic leading roles in films such as The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), Cold Mountain (2003), and Sherlock Holmes (2009). He has also worked in television, including lead roles in The Young Pope (2016) and The Nest (2020).

The career path taken by Law and his multi-faceted talent to date as both, an actor and a producer have made him one of the most respected figures in today's film world. This recognition came when he produced The Order, which was something for him and his company Riff Raff Entertainment.

He praised the Zurich Film Festival for choosing the film as its opening film, telling Deadline:

“It is a privilege to join Justin in presenting this story to audiences…the relevance of which speaks for itself.”

Jude Law's The Order is a dark political thriller

The Order takes place in 1983 and addresses the surge of far-right extremism in the U.S., which, ominously enough, echoes into today. Law plays Terry Husk, an FBI agent bringing down a neo-Nazi terror organization in the Pacific Northwest. An adaptation of Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt's 1989 The Silent Brotherhood, the film gets to the root of ideologies that propel homegrown terrorism.

The film gets into a political scene we see today, particularly with its take on modern-day extremist movements. Jude Law as Husk is described by critics as one of his finest and even compared to Gene Hackman's powerhouse performances in The French Connection and Mississippi Burning, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It stars Nicholas Hoult as Bob Mathews, the leader of a far-right group, and is helmed by Justin Kurzel. Thanks to the turn by Law and surefooted work from Kurzel, The Order aims to be an entertaining ride and an investigation into America's ongoing struggle with extremism.

Such has been the brilliance of Law in The Order that award season talk is on for many, with a fair number believing this could be what finally gets him an Academy Award over two decades later. With its scheduled release in the U.S., the film is already drumming up some serious Oscar buzz.

If you’re excited to catch Jude Law in The Order, it’s hitting theaters in a limited release on December 6, 2024.
