We all admire our superheroes, but Elon Musk might have taken his admiration further. On November 24, 2024, the SpaceX CEO shared a picture of him on X in which he wore an Iron Man suit and called himself ‘Irony Man.’ He wrote that he would use the power of ‘irony’ to defeat the villains. He captioned the picture,

“I will use the power of irony to defeat villains! “Oh you call yourself “The Joker”, then why can’t you tell a joke! How ironic …””

The post has triggered reactions from social media users, some of whom have even used it to create online memes. One X user wrote,

“You are painfully unfunny. And you think you’re Tony Stark when in reality you’re Lex Luthor (minus the looks and intellect). Delete your account and resign already.”

Netizens appreciated Elon Musk's ‘irony’ look as some got costume ideas for Halloween.

“That’s it I’m dressing up as Irony Man for halloween next year,” a person commented.
“"Irony Man: Meme War" coming soon to cinemas,” a netizen reacted.
“You've never once told a funny joke. Not once,” an online user wrote.

Some social media users complimented Elon Musk’s sense of humor while X users joked about Hollywood using his Iron Man patent.

“And people say those with Asperger's can't get irony. The irony of life... The Irony man has Asperger's,” another X user remarked.
“Elon, someone in Hollywood is using your patent to play Iron Man,” a social media user joked.
“Luv your sense of humor! It makes you and the rest smile. Thanx, Mr. Musk!” a person shared.
“Yes, you are, 'ironyman' most of the time. You always find paradoxes in many situations, that makes you laugh, in the middle of your discourse. You discover double side of others behave and you are very lucid in pointing to it,” a netizen shared.

Elon Musk’s Irony Man post reportedly targeted the Marvel-DC competition

The Tesla CEO shared another follow-up post in which he mentioned that since Iron Man was Marvel’s creation and Joker DC’s, the irony was lost. Recently, speculation arose about Elon Musk potentially acquiring MSNBC, a prominent U.S. news network.

This came about after Donald Trump Jr. suggested that Musk would buy the network amid rumors of a possible sale by its parent company, Comcast. In 2017, Elon Musk shared that he avidly read comics as a child, and his favorite characters like Batman, Superman, and Iron Man alongside classics and science fiction.

His passion for comics came full circle with a cameo in Iron Man 2, even allowing Marvel Studios to use SpaceX’s headquarters for filming at no cost. According to experts, his love for these comics could have boosted his interest in the field of science and technology.

In Iron Man 2, Elon Musk appeared alongside Robert Downey Jr. who complimented the parallels between him and Tony Stark during the On With Kara Swisher podcast. Downey Jr. wished Musk would manage his behavior more carefully but acknowledged his contributions and value, despite not fully aligning with the justification of certain actions in pursuit of reaching Mars.
