On September 24, 2024, Drake posted photos with Ruby da Cherry and $crim, the hip-hop duo known as $uicideboy$, on his Instagram. The duo was between their two-month Grey Day tour in Toronto, which started on August 7, 2024, and shall continue till November 11, 2024.

The photos have gained the attention of netizens who criticized the duo for linking up with Drake, particularly in light of his recent loss in the Kendrick Lamar rivalry.

$uicideboy$, interestingly, did not give an online response but rather an onstage one during their concert on September 25, 2024. They emphasized that they would collaborate with whomever they chose. $uicideboy$ said:

“They have grown a** people taking time out of their lives writing a whole f*****g paragraph in a thesis about why we shouldn’t be taking pictures with a certain somebody. I don’t understand it bro.”

They continued:

“And if anybody got the nerve to hate on me and this motherf****r who built something out of nothing. We come from the motherf**king dirt. At that point bro, you just a motherf**king hater and I hope you go home and you let your mama know that she raised a b***h.”

The photos were taken after the $uicideboy$ performed in Scotiabank Arena, and Drake supported them. In the caption, Drake expressed his admiration, saying the show made him reflective and proud of everyone's journey. He mentioned how incredible it was to see the sold-out Scotia arena and the city showing love to the duo.

$uicideboy$ topped the Billboard chart with their album in July 2024

The hip-hop duo hit the Billboard charts with their new album New World Depression in July this year, which was their first-ever number 1. The album debuts at the top of the Vinyl Albums chart, which ranked the bestselling albums and EPs in vinyl format across the U.S., as published by Billboard.

According to Luminate, New World Depression sold over 19,500 copies, with a significant portion, 16,000 copies, being vinyl sales, as reported by Billboard.

The hip-hop duo are recovering from opioid addiction and have openly confronted their struggles with drugs, depression, and su*cidal thoughts as a badge of honor. $uicideboy$ appeared in a podcast with Theo Von Clips in June 2024, during which $crim said:

“I started young and then basically by 16 I had my first paid pill. I was drinking before that and every time I drank I blacked out like you know what I am talking about, I couldn’t help it.”

He continued:

“I took my first paid pill at 16 and then from then I was like f**k I want to feel like this every day like I get it now cuz the way I grew up I hated all that s**t from just growing up how I did and I was like I am never gonna touch any of that s**t and I didn’t for a long time until I did.”

In an interview piece with Billboard from 2022, $crim reflected on when he felt restricted. He admitted that it was a significant burden, as he thought he was becoming trapped.

$crim said he was focused on trap music when Ruby initially discovered him. He never envisioned reaching his current state, crediting Ruby for recognizing the potential in him that he hadn’t seen himself.
