Meek Mill, aka Robert Rihmeek Williams, became the subject of online scrutiny following his comment regarding the LA wildfire. He took to X on January 9, 2025, and shared his experience of dealing with a similar incident as a kid.

He wrote:

“Prayers to la. I never knew about fire trauma until my house caught on fire…. I was smelling fire in my sleep jumping up for 3 years… I didnt know that type of trauma existed, so I was just dealing with it as a kid!”

His X post appeared to confuse netizens, as many wrote that Meek Mill's response was too self-centered. Others, while sharing similar sentiments, mentioned that he almost belittled the experience of trauma from the wildfire. However, one X user defended him and wrote:

“naa what did he say wrong here? y’all need to stop bullying him.”

Social media users criticized Meek Mill for making the disaster about himself while others suggested that his X account must be taken down.

“You didn’t know it existed so you was dealing with it as a kid?” a person asked.
“I know you’re probably tryna show folks you can relate or something but this comes off and folks will take it as you making the tragedy about yourself ….like you’re basically saying “I too have felt pain,” a social media user noted.
“you’re dumb as h*ll meek mill. someone needs to take your twitter away lmao,” another X user commented.

Some netizens supported the rapper for sharing his narrative about wildfire, as some X users wrote that this was how people shared empathy.

“It's powerful that you're sharing this because so many people silently carry fire trauma and think they're alone in those midnight panic moments,” a netizen remarked.
“Why are people upset that he’s posting about his PTSD from experiencing a house fire as a kid? That’s how some people including myself show empathy by sharing how we can relate to others,” an online user mentioned.
“It’s real, especially when u never had renter’s insurance. I have never been the same since and it’s almost going a year,” an internet user pointed out.

Besides Meek Mill, other personalities also shared their prayers for the LA wildfire

Meek Mill is not the only music industry member to share his grief about the wildfire. Singer Shawn Mendes also posted an Instagram story expressing his remorse for the ones who lost their homes. He wrote:

“I'm so sorry to those who have lost their homes already, i can't imagine. As long as you are safe out there.”
