Wolf Man Director Leigh Whannell has made quite a name for himself in the industry- thanks to his collection of critically acclaimed horror films, noted for their intensive storylines and unsettling themes.

The director and screenwriter is known for his 2020 horror film The Invisible Man, a reboot of the 1933 classic. The film garnered positive reviews from fans and critics, but way before Wolf Man and The Invisible Man, Whannell had received acclaim for his film Upgrade.

Although underrated in terms of box office collection and performance, the film received positive reviews from critics and fans, and talks of a sequel in the form of a TV show surfaced. However, Whannell is crushing any hopes fans had of getting a TV show continuation of the film, as the director talked about how he wishes to keep the film standalone.

Speaking to Hollywood Reporter, the director said,

"But as far as making a sequel, that’s another one where I’m like, “I think we’re good there. We’re good.” I would love to let that film keep bubbling away as this cult movie, and if people keep thinking that it was somehow prophetic, then that would be great."

Upgrade was a 2018 science fiction film that revolved around a man who tries to hunt down the people who are responsible for his wife's death. The film has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 88% and is available to stream on Prime Video.

Whannell also killed any hopes fans had for a sequel to Invisible Man as he refused to toy around further with the story and talked about how he is content with how it ended. In the same interview, he said,

“I can’t imagine gluing more story onto [The Invisible Man]. I was so happy with Invisible Man’s ending that I just don’t feel the artistic need to go forward with it. The studio might look at that and say, ‘Well, we feel like it should keep going because we want to make more money.’ But on an artistic level, I’m like, ‘That’s a nice closed door there. Let’s just leave it closed.’”

Nevertheless, fans can still enjoy Whannell's work by watching his latest release, Wolf Man which is now playing in theaters.
