James Gunn's Superman is making waves on the internet as the trailer of the film has garnered over 250 million views and a million social posts according to the DC Studios CEO. He shared the news on his X (formerly Twitter) profile on Friday, December 20.
The now-CEO of DC Studios has directed the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise for Marvel Studios previously. He is known for the touch of humor in his films, so it will be interesting to see how Gunn has handled this rather serious superhero.
Superman is already at the top, even before its release
In his post, Gunn expressed gratitude to everyone who watched the film's trailer. At the time of writing, his post itself has garnered 1.5 million views.. He said,
"This is because of all of you: thank you! We’re incredibly grateful and, most of all, excited to share this movie with you in July."
Though the trailer was brilliant, some fans are still missing Henry Cavill's Man of Steel. A user dubbed Maverick said:
"Safe to say most of us prefer Henry Cavill but the inability for many to move on is crazy lmao"
Mr.MAGA TX commented:
"Not watching this or anything else you make Henry Cavill is our Superman"
Most fans, however, are really excited to see the new Kryptonian survivor in action. Krypto the Superdog, in particular, has stolen the limelight from David Corenswet.
Other actors who will be part of the film include Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Nathan Fillion, and more. Hoult will be playing the antagonist Lex Luthor in the movie, while many other superheroes are likely to appear in it alongside Superman.
The story of the new DC Studios film is inspired by the All-Star Superman that ran from November 2005 to October 2008. In the issue, Lex Luthor is trying to overwhelm Superman. He does get the power to do that, but it comes with a consequence that greatly reduces his life.
David Corenswet has some big shoes to fill, with James Gunn being the director of the film. The actor is relatively new in the industry but has impressed viewers with his roles in We Own This City and The Politician. James Gunn's reputation precedes him, so that's a plus for the movie.
