Actress and comedian Nikki Glaser will host the 82nd Golden Globes award, which will air on January 6, 2025. She will be make history as the award show's first solo female host. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Glaser said she has practiced her monologue almost 93 times ahead of the event.
The award show is popular because the host mostly takes a dig at celebrities in the audience. However, Nikki Glaser has set her boundaries on certain topics she will avoid.
Hollywood is currently witnessing events around Blake Lively’s s*xual assault lawsuit against Justin Baldoni. During an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, the Golden Globes host said she would not delve into the subject through her jokes, elaborating:
“I think the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni thing is such a hot-button thing right now that even a mere mention of it will seem like I could be on the wrong side of things, even though I would never be.”
Nikki Glaser expressed frustration about knowing his name, emphasizing she didn’t want to mention it further. She acknowledged that people are weary hearing about it, despite its pervasive presence.
While there might be subtle references, she explained her approach would avoid being overly direct, as she has made a conscious effort to keep it balanced.
Discussing her approach to addressing celebrities in her Golden Globes opening monologue, Glaser explained she intended to keep it light and avoid offending, clarifying that her style would differ from the bold tone associated with Ricky Gervais.
What can one expect from Nikki Glaser at the 2025 Golden Globes?
Speaking to the media outlet about the Golden Globes, Glaser reassured celebrities they had nothing to worry about, emphasizing that award shows are a chance to appear relatable and approachable. She noted that audiences often admire stars but also crave moments of humanity from them.
Nikki Glaser encouraged celebrities to take jokes in stride and laugh, even if it's challenging. Drawing from her experience as the subject of harsh roast jokes, she promised her humor would not cross the line into outright cruelty during the Golden Globes. She added:
“So if I make a joke about a bad movie you did once that you had nothing to do with, other than that you were great in a bad movie, just laugh. It's a really easy way to look likable to the public and actually it's a great PR move. Everyone in your camp should encourage you to laugh at jokes.”
During an interview with Variety, Nikki Glaser was asked if there was a difficult celebrity she would like to have fun with at the Golden Globes. Glaser acknowledged some people are known for lacking a sense of humor about themselves.
She felt making such a person laugh would set a welcoming tone in the room. Reflecting on an unused joke from her monologue, she mentioned advising celebrities to laugh when the camera is on them, as it helps them appear likable and approachable to viewers.
However, Nikki Glaser is surprised that publicists don’t emphasize this, adding that laughing at a joke is far easier and more relatable than performing gimmicky games to win over the audience.
