Will Brandy Norwood return to I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel? Here's what the director said

I Know What You Did Last Summer is a forthcoming slasher film and a sequel to the namesake 1998 original. It will be released on July 18, 2025, by Sony Pictures Releasing. Here's the official synopsis:

"A group of friends are terrorized by a stalker who knows about a gruesome incident from their past".

There have been reports about the return of Brandy Norwood in the upcoming film. She portrayed Karla Wilson in the original 1998 release and its sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. The director of the forthcoming film has provided a clarification.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the director of the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot, gave an interview to People magazine. She spoke about the possibility of Brandy Norwood returning as Karla Wilson.

"You'll have to go see the movie. [They] approached it like super fans, so I think people are going to be really happy. All the things that you want to see in this movie, you're going to see in this movie."

This is a pleasant tease for fans who are awaiting Brandy's return to the franchise. In the same interview, the director also remarked that the film will have a hat-tip to the original, and added

"We have one really, really fantastic nod to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer that people are going to love. There's definitely more methodology to every kill in this movie, unlike the first, which is kind of just him stalking them and going after them. There's not a lot of gore or blood or violence in the first one. There certainly is in this one."

Robinson also mentions that although there's an attempt to evoke nostalgia in I Know What You Did Last Summer, it will also work for people who haven't watched the earlier films.

"We very purposefully wanted to make this movie both for fans of the original who are coming to this and excited about the easter eggs but also for a new audience that can find I Know and almost watch the first one like a prequel. That was very front of mind for me as we made this movie."
