Out of all the stars in Hollywood who have wore the red-blue suit for Marvel's Spiderman, Andrew Garfield's portrayal surely hits different. The actor, who took on the role of Peter Parker for two films- The Amazing Spider-man and it's sequel, returned for a third film as he starred alongside Tom Holland and Toby Maguire for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
As plans for a third film in the franchise are buzzing now, many have wondered if Garfield or Maguire will return to reprise their roles as the hero. As he appeared at the Middle East Film & TV Comic-Con in Abu Dhabi this weekend, Garfield opened up on his plans of returning to the MCU.
Talking about what can possibly bring him back, the actor said:
“I would love to play the character again in some capacity, but I think it would have to be very weird. I think I would like to do something very strange, I would want to do something very unique, and offbeat and surprising. Kind of like the creative freedom that they have with the animated Spider-Verse movies. I think they’re so great, and you can honor the character in so many different ways.”
Garfield has always been positive about reprising his role as Spider-Man as he previously told Esquire in October 2024:
"For sure, I would 100 percent come back if it was the right thing, if it’s additive to the culture, if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting and that you can sink your teeth into. I love that character, and it brings joy. If part of what I bring is joy, then I’m joyful in return."
What do we know about Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Not much has been revealed so far about the next film in Tom Hollan's Spider-Man trilogy but we do know that it's coming out in 2026. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film will most likely take place after Holland's Peter has wiped away memories of him being Spiderman and is no longer recognised by MJ or Ned. It's not yet known if Zendaya will reprise her role for the next film but we do know that Sadie Sink will make an appearance in this project, although her role is unspecified for now. Filming for Brand New Day is expected to start this year.
Talking about the new film at Las Vegas' CinemaCon this year, Holland stated:
“I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, so Spider Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That’s all I can say.”
All the Spider-Man films are avilable to watch on Disney+.
