Why Tom Holland is not a part of Avengers: Doomsday? Spider-Man’s possible future in the MCU, explored

Tom Holland has played the role of Spider-Man in several films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe including Spiderman: Homecoming and Avengers: Endgame. Recently, Marvel revealed the cast members of their forthcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. It will be released on May 1, 2026.

While the cast includes A-listers like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth, among others, it did not include Tom Holland. This could be because, as revealed by The Direct, Holland is busy with Spider-Man 4, which will reportedly set to be released in July 2026. This might mean that while the character may not be part of Avengers: Doomsday, we could see him return for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Tom Holland is not in Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel Studios has announced several cast members of their upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. While fans were excited to see Thor, X-Men, and members of the Fantastic Four, a lot of people realized that Tom Holland was missing. Apart from Tom Holland, other notable names missing in the newly released cast members' list include Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner.

A report in The Direct has speculated that Holland is busy with Spider-Man 4 which will reportedly be out in July 2026. In the earlier films, we saw that the web-slinger was affected by the death of his aunt, May. Because of Doctor Strange, people who knew him also don't have any memory of him. We can conjecture that the events of Avengers: Doomsday will have its after shock felt in Spider-Man 4.

Spider-Man 4 is directed by Daniel Destin Cretton and will star Tom Holland as the titular superhero. Apart from him, Stranger Things fame Sadie Sink has also joined the cast.
