Rapper and record producer Kanye West has reached an agreement with a bishop from Texas who sued him over alleged song theft. According to an exclusive report by AllHipHop, the bishop had filed a lawsuit against the rapper, which has now been dismissed.

Bishop David Paul Moten accused Kanye West of reportedly using a portion of his 2011 sermon, Thank God for Saving Me, without permission in the song Come to Life from the 2021 album Donda. Filed in June 2023, the lawsuit claimed that about 70 seconds of the sermon were included without approval or compensation.

However, a judge dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice on January 30, 2025. According to Daily Mail, Moten claimed in legal documents that his voice and sermon were used throughout the song, making up over 20% of the track. His lawsuit also included UMG Recordings, Def Jam Recordings, and G.O.O.D Music.

Moten pursued damages, including repayment of profits and statutory penalties. Court filings showed that both sides agreed to dismiss the case, making a court order unnecessary. The case was dismissed with prejudice, preventing Moten from refiling in the future. Details of any settlement were not disclosed.

According to Complex, Donda was Kanye West’s tenth to debut at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 309,000 equivalent album units in its first week of release. It also outperformed his previous album, Jesus Is King, in sales.

Kanye West also faced multiple lawsuits related to his private school, Donda Academy

Kanye West also faced a lawsuit related to Donda Academy, the school he founded in 2022. Former teachers at the school filed complaints, including one alleging that students were only served sushi as their meals. According to TMZ, the students were not allowed to have the food while sitting on a table and chair.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, former employee TTrevor Phillips alleged that Kanye West made antisemitic remarks in front of staff and students at Donda Academy. Phillips also claimed that West compared himself to Adolf Hitler and allegedly suggested shaving students’ heads and placing them in a cage.

However, in December 2024, Kanye West skipped an important court hearing related to the lawsuit, leading to a default ruling against his companies. A Los Angeles judge ruled in favor of the plaintiff, Isaiah Meadows.

According to Rolling Stone, Meadows was hired in 2020 to help run Yeezy Christian Academy before it transitioned to Donda Academy in 2021. He claimed he faced pay cuts, lost a promised rent stipend, and was fired in 2022 after raising concerns about poor conditions, including exposed wiring, an overflowing septic tank, and broken windows.

His attorney expressed satisfaction with the judge’s swift handling of the case and looked forward to securing a judgment. Similar lawsuits were filed by other ex-employees on similar grounds, including lack of security precautions, improper educational guidelines, payment-related issues, and discrimination.

In other news, Kanye West was reportedly seen sojourning at rapper ASAP Rocky’s house on January 30, 2025, according to an exclusive report by TMZ.
