TV personality Spencer Pratt and his wife Heidi Montag have filed a lawsuit, along with 20 other people, on January 21, 2025, against the city of Los Angeles and the LA Department of Water and Power (LADWP). According to a TMZ report, the couple blamed the city officials for losing their property in the LA wildfires.

The announcement comes after their house was damaged in the Palisades fire. The major claim in their lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, was that a local reservoir, which was empty, caused a hindrance in water availability to douse the wildfires. The lawsuit noted:

“The Santa Ynez Reservoir, the reservoir that services Pacific Palisades, was completely offline and emptied before the fires erupted in the area, leaving fire crews little-to-no water to fight the Palisades Fire. The Santa Ynez Reservoir had been out of commission since February of 2024, awaiting repairs to its cover.”

Reportedly, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag alleged the LADWP tried to cut costs by draining a reservoir and seeking repair bids, which they claimed left the area vulnerable when the fire swept through. They also blamed the water system design, saying it couldn’t effectively handle wildfires.

The plaintiffs claim that fire hydrants in Pacific Palisades stopped working after three water tanks, each holding one million gallons, ran dry within 12 hours.

Spencer Pratt has shared his family's struggles following the fire on social media, even using TikTok to promote Heidi Montag’s music to support their family financially. Both Pratt and his parents, who also lost their homes in the fire, are part of the lawsuit.

Compensations that the plaintiffs, including Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, demand

Through the lawsuit, the plaintiffs seek damages for various losses, including the complete or partial loss of their homes and personal property and damage to items like fine art and collectibles that weren’t covered by insurance.

They also claim financial losses due to insurance coverage limits, mandatory evacuation expenses, delays in rebuilding, and costs for alternative housing. The plaintiffs also demand a jury trial as a further course of action.

Additionally, they seek compensation for personal injuries, medical expenses, and any other damages that may be proven during the trial, including possible punitive damages depending on the lawsuit's outcome.

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag have been open about their financial struggles, including earning money by sharing personal moments with their fans. Previously, Spencer Pratt explained that after losing everything, they couldn’t afford to stop doing what pays their bills. According to Variety, taking to his TikTok, he wrote:

“I know people are like, ‘You’re rich, you will be fine.’ Yeah, I wish. Everything in our house was paid for by Heidi and I hustling any way we could. Everything we have worked for was in this house… we are starting at zero now.”

He mentioned making around $4,000 on TikTok that week, with another $20,000 coming from direct contributions during TikTok Live. Spencer Pratt expressed how powerful and life-changing it is to receive support directly from individuals rather than relying on ads or algorithms.
