Ryan Coogler's Sinners is emerging as one of the most successful films of 2025, as the gothic horror thriller is garnering immense praise from the audience and critics while also being a big success financially at the box office. Most of its triumph can be credited to Coogler's brilliant storytelling and his ability to blend genres to create the perfect eerie watch that is captivating all the same. Michael B. Jordan's role as twins Smoke and Stack is also a highlight of the film, as his dual roles have left fans awestruck by his range and emotional depth.

With all the creative geniuses that came together to create the masterpiece, Christopher Nolan also gets some credit, as the filmmaker is given special thanks in the film's end credits. No, Nolan didn't exactly put any work into the project, but he did, however, give Coogler a piece of advice that altered the premise of the film.

Reports state that Coogler thanked director Christopher Nolan for his guidance on IMAX technology and large-scale photography. According to reports, it is the first feature film to use both IMAX 65 and 70 mm cameras. Nolan frequently promotes the use of 70 mm film cameras, particularly IMAX cameras. The same technology is being used to make The Odyssey, his next project.

Christopher Nolan's films have held their brilliance in quite a lot of forms, and his use of IMAX has been a major contribution to his cinematography, which has always stood out among others. Now the director is extending this piece of helpful advice to other fellow directors as well.

During a trailer preview event, Ryan Coogler opened up on how Nolan contributed to the film as he told the audience,

“I got advice from Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas, who are masters of the form. It was our first time working with large-format photography. We were doing something that hasn’t been done before, combining Ultra Panavision, which is 2.76:1, very wide, with the full frame IMAX film.”

The large format photography certainly had quite the impact on the film's premise, which majorly depends on its haunting visuals for the horror effect. Loosely based on Stephen King's Salem's Lot, Sinners makes use of its nighttime photography to maintain its haunting decor and add more effect to its premise that is both exciting and scary.

The official synopsis for Sinners reads,

Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

Sinners is available in theatres now.
