Texas rapper Scarface took to Instagram to share an update on his health struggles on October 8, noting that he is well and alive. The rapper underwent open heart surgery to rectify an aortic aneurysm and leaky valve in August.

He posted an image of himself post-op at the Houston Methodist Hospital on the platform.

However, in the update, Scarfce can be seen walking down to the stage at the 2025 Grandmaster Awards in Las Vegas, smiling ear to ear as he buttons his tuxedo. The caption reads:

"6wks ago I underwent open heart surgery, to be upright and smiling today shows you that God ain't nothing to play with. And again I say, I’m grateful, it could've went either way, yet I'm still alive..."

Scarface also uploaded a selfie of him with his doctor, Dr. Andrea G., on October 8, thanking him for his care.

"This is the man, one of the most sought after surgeons in the world, when I was told, “this Dr. is hard to get” he’s one of the best if not THE BEST. When I woke up to have a scheduled aortic aneurysm and leaky valve repaired something crazy happened, when he got me cut open, my aneurysm had torn the entire circumference of my aorta ( certain death ) but nope, no surprise to him, I woke 24hrs+ later and I asked him, why me doc, out of all the people you could’ve worked on? He looked up to the heavens and he did this ☝🏻 wow, and again I say I’m grateful…."

Scarface thanks his son for saving his life by donating a kidney

The rapper is no stranger to health scares, as back in 2020, he was put on dialysis as his kidneys began failing due to COVID-19. The following year, he had to get a kidney transplant. He took to X in October 2020 to find a volunteer donor, and not long after, it was given to him by his son and tour manager, Chris Jordan.

Scarface took to Instagram Live in September 2021 to thank his son for the same, letting everyone know the surgery went swell at the Methodist Hospital.

"My son saved my life and I can’t say enough about him. That boy saved my life, man. And I love him so much. But I always said that sh*t though. He’s the best son a guy could have. Chris, you ain’t sh*t [laughs]. Don’t make me laugh, Chris. C’mon dawg. ”

He continued, expressing his pride in his son:

"I’m so proud of you [he said looking at Chris]. I love you too much. You saved my m*thaf*ckin’ life. You low down m*thaf*cka. You’re selfish. Won’t let a n-gga die. That n-gga will not let me die [laughs]. I ain’t gonna tear up in here in front of all these people on Instagram Live.”

In speaking with Houstonia in September 2021, Chris reflected on Scarface's journey so far.

"It happened so quick honestly. He was in the hospital with COVID-19, and a couple days after that we found out his kidney was failing, seems like the next day the doctors were telling us he needed to go on dialysis. What a journey it’s been."

He continued, noting that he didn't need to think twice about giving his kidney to his dad, Scarface.

"It was a very big decision, but it wasn’t one I had to sit and think about. Once I found out he needed a kidney, I made the phone call and told him if I was a match I was going to do it. It’s my dad. He helped give me life so to me, I felt it was my duty to extend his.”

Not long after donating his kidney, Scarface's son founded the Wayne C. Wilson Quality of Life Foundation. His goal was to raise awareness surrounding organ donation, especially in the Black and Brown communities.
